Exactly right, and that’s the truth that gets buried under the outrage.
What happened to Brenda Miles isn’t about asylum seekers or migration; it’s about how private equity has turned care into a profit machine. Many care homes are owned by offshore investment funds or financial groups that treat elderly residents as revenue streams, not human beings. They drain life savings from families who’ve already paid into the system all their lives, while underpaying staff, cutting corners, and charging councils extortionate rates for basic care.
The real scandal is that we’ve allowed an essential public good, dignity in old age, to become a cash cow for investors. The workers are exhausted and underpaid, the residents are frightened and disposable once their money runs out, and the taxpayers are footing the bill for shareholder dividends.
Blaming asylum seekers misses the mark entirely. This is about political failure, corporate greed, and a moral void in how we value our elders. Brenda deserved compassion and security, not eviction.
They don't make songs like that anymore. All natural, no computers. One of the best voices ever. Goosebumps.
