Shigeru Miyamoto is the first from the video game industry to be awarded the "Order of Culture" honor in Japan.
It celebrates contributions to the advancement and development of Japanese culture.

At Nintendo's headquarters during Miyamoto's Order of Culture Q&A, this display was apparently there.
It certainly does capture Miyamoto's life work at Nintendo....
Video games, Movies and Theme Parks.

Miyamoto discusses what the Order of Culture award means to him:
"I feel quite embarrassed, to be honest, but I am truly honored to have been chosen for such a prestigious award.
As I often say, I do not create games all by myself. This award is the result of the work I have done alongside many others, and I accept it as a representative of that entire team.
Lately, in particular, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with people from fields beyond just video games—such as on "Super Nintendo World" at Universal Studios Japan and various film-related projects. I would like to share the joy of this award with all of them.
Recently, there have been several milestones, such as the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and I myself have often mentioned that it has been 45 years since I began making games. However, when I really think about it—having joined Nintendo in 1977 and immediately becoming involved in game development—it has actually been 50 years. Since "50 years" is a nice, round number, I’ll use that figure today.
Fifty years ago, I began working in a medium called "games"—a medium whose very nature was, at the time, not even clearly defined. I have been able to continue this work ever since. I believe I am receiving this recognition precisely because I was there from the very dawn of the industry, and I feel that I have led a very lucky life."

Miyamoto listed five people who've influenced his life in various ways:
- Hiroshi Yamauchi (Former Nintendo President)
- Gunpei Yokoi (Former Nintendo Designer)
- Shigesato Itoi (Mother/Earthbound)
- Fujio Akatsuka (Manga)
- Osamu Tezuka (Manga)

Miyamoto says Nintendo has 3,000-4,000 developers and around 10,000 employees worldwide (it's actually less based on Nintendo's financials) so it's more difficult to share the spirit of originality with everyone.

Miyamoto said that at his age, he doesn't know when he might not be able to work anymore, but he's involved in several projects and he's going to continue enjoying what he does.

Miyamoto is acknowledged more for his involvement in movies, theme parks and even the museum these days, but he'll always be the greatest video game developer to me!
Any positive recognition he gets is more than deserved.
This is probably the biggest review code drop I've ever received in a single day, LOL
I think we're gonna be VERY busy over the next few weeks...
Big thaks to @NintendoAmerica@SquareEnix@SNKPofficial@BandaiNamcoUS for sending the games my way! Can't wait to play them all!
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is the last major Square Enix release of 2026.
I always think back to the DS/3DS days of the series with localizations being such a question mark.
I'm happy that's no longer the case.
