228 years ago and Old Ironside (the USS Constitution) is still in service as the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world and the United States Navy's oldest commissioned vessel.

Launched in 1797, it remains an active part of the fleet, with naval officers and crew serving aboard it for ceremonial duties, maintenance, and occasional underways (short cruises).

It's docked in Boston as a museum ship open to visitors when not undergoing maintenance, but its commissioned status hasn't changed.

As of October 2025, it's temporarily closed to the public due to ongoing preparations, including a planned (but postponed) underway on October 21.
