For some time, I suspected my girlfriend practiced witchcraft. I thought she was being used unknowingly.

She used to put 20L bucket at the back of our rented room every evening. When I asked her what was is it for? Her answer was so that birds could drink. In my head, I thought what a caring human being.

But most times late at night, I'd would over hear water splashing as if someone was bathing, but I'd be too deep in my sleep that I would fail to even open my eyes. One day, I used coarse salt and jeyes fluid to bath before bedtime as it was believed it could chase away bad spirits. That night, I heard the splashing of water, I checked the time, and it was 2AM.

I tried waking my girlfriend up, but she was deep in sleep. I got out of bed, took a spade, and peeked through the bathroom back window, and I saw my girlfriend splashing herself with the water. She was washing the black and white polish she was smeared with. I must have rubbed my eyes a hundred times.

It was a full moon, so I could see clearly. I ran back to the bedroom direction, and my girlfriend was sleeping peacefully. I was now confused. I sat on the chair all night watching her. I don't know how I fell asleep but I was woken up by her and I screamed very loud and ran to the door.

She was shocked, scared, and confused. I confronted her but she seemed cluless. When I told her to stop putting the bucket behind the house, she got very angry and started to guilt trip me about being heartless.

I started being curious about her background since she didn't even have friends. But by luck, I managed to search the internet till I found one granny who claimed to know her, and I visited her to know more about my girlfriend.

During my visit, I showed her our pictures, "Haibo mntanami, uDorothy mina naye we are the same age phela I'm 107 years old. If usemncane kanje, then it means she is still practicing this other ritual esafundiswa yona"

I found out that her shadow leaves her body to perform a ritual with 20L water so she could stay young forever.
