“Doll” is by far my favorite thing that Vincent/Vox can call Alastor. First because it's plausible, period-accurate slang for him to be using. Second because he's shallow when it comes to appearance and likes pretty, shiny, perfect things. Third and best of all, it speaks to his psychology. On the surface it's a compliment or term of endearment (and is often used as a genuine one), but to Vincent it's also a way to give himself the upper hand. It subtly takes away the agency of the other person, likening them to an object, a concept that would soothe both his ego and fear of rejection. But when he really starts to care for Alastor, that "objectification" morphs into something rather sweet, too. Vincent/Vox is the ultimate service top, and a doll can be an object of love and care, not just play. He likes to bathe and dress Alastor (when Al will let him, he LOVES to dress him up in pretty outfits), make sure he's eating properly, protect him as best he can, and hold him while he's sleeping. Also he just REALLY likes to manhandle Alastor. This isn't purely sexual either. Just touching Alastor grounds him in ways nothing else does. He'll squeeze him like a stress ball and run his hands over his soft skin while he's pouring over scripts and network data. His living fidget toy helps him think. But of course he'll also bend him into a pretzel & throw him around like a ragdoll when Al's willing. 💕
