@vBnovus @a_centrism I don’t know if that’s necessarily true, biotech is so big that while the average IQ may not be as high as math or physics, it still contains a lot of very smart people at the top. The nature of the field just requires a lot more mid level workers than math or physics.

@kmlyounes I wonder if you’ve read the essay “what is it like to be a bat?” on this topic, but certainly it is even harder to imagine what it’s like to be a Roomba! But the current AIs are probably too simple to have an “inner life”, I think that requires perception of your own perception.

@kmlyounes So I’m not sure if it really is mysterious or not. If I think “why this?” it seems very mysterious, but then if I think “why not this?”, then it doesn’t feel so mysterious. 😆 I don’t know.

@kmlyounes And I think sensory perception is mysterious even at a lower level, like vision. The nature of the sensation I get when I look at something red is very mysterious to me, but then again, it had to be something, right? Biology had to find a way for the eye to talk to the brain.

@ImmuneHack I think the alternative views are not implausible, but will not gain any more traction than the hereditarian view among the progressive elites because they often boil down to “black women are bad mothers”. Obviously that won’t fly.

@whyvert So while I very much agree there are cultural and potentially biological differences between major regions/peoples in things like risk aversion, I think it’s always tricky to interpret any single event this way, too many confounders. I think you see the pattern in the long run.
