Help to Buy England closed to new applicants under the Conservatives in March 2023.

The enhanced first time buyer stamp duty thresholds were a temporary Truss era measure that expired by design on 31 March 2025.
Neither government extended them.

Right to Buy has not been abolished. Discounts have been cut and eligibility hardened because two million social homes were sold and a large share are now private rentals charging market rates while waiting lists grow.

The modest recovery in under 35 ownership began in the mid 2010s under your governments and still leaves rates roughly twenty points below the early 2000s peak.

So which exact policy that Labour “scrapped” explains a recovery that was already underway, and how many of the former Right to Buy homes in Thirsk and Malton are now buy to let?

The numbers do not lie and the contradictions scream.

More than 250,000 evacuated in France, over 116,000 in Spain.

The Gironde blaze has burned 42,000 hectares...four times the size of Paris advancing to within seven miles of Bordeaux.

Cap Ferret peninsula emptied. Firestorms generating their own weather. Spain’s fire near Madrid now among its largest on record. Macron has called the situation the worst since the Second World War and finally admitted that French forests must be adapted to climate change.

A fresh heatwave midweek turns containment into a race against time.

Yet the political arsonists remain protected. Macron talks tough while his government has overseen continued fossil dependence and insufficient public investment in prevention.

In Spain the fires expose years of under resourcing after austerity. Cross the Channel and the pattern is identical.

Reform UK and Farage spent a decade dismissing every new extreme as “weather” or “the left exaggerating”. They take the fossil lobby line while ordinary families here face soaring insurance, cancelled holidays and the same heatwaves.

Follow the oil money and the think tank pamphlets that still claim net zero is the real threat as Europe burns.

This is class war by arson. The private jet set and the oil majors extract the profits. Working people and small businesses in the wine regions and tourist towns lose the homes and the livelihoods.
