Retweeting this because it's important and people seem to forget the deeper issue here.
This isn't just about a movie being "banned" or a ride closing.
This is about the villification of actual people's culture and the suppression of their oral traditions.
@Starport97@KateFisher96 This isn't just a movie. They have irreparably damaged the reputation of actual people's cultural heritage.
They are sending the message that these characters and stories that have survived generations of suppression and colonialism are bad.
That's not ok.
Gen AI is legitimately making my depression 100× worse and idk what to do about it. It's not something you can just avoid anymore, it's everywhere.
Walked in on someone completely absorbed in a fully AI generated David Attenborough documentary and wanted to blow my brains out.
What makes in worse than any other ride closure for me is how malicious and calculated it all was.
They knew the ride was popular, and that's why they had to fabricate what was essentially a smear campaign against it to justify closing it.
Something they have NEVER done before.
Splash Mountain is the one I’m never going to get over cause to me, that one was “Disney: The Ride”. Everything else I can come to terms with in some way.
@BrerOswald This is precisely what annoys me. Like how can you possibly not understand why we're upset after listening to the soundtrack/watching a POV of the ride?
We lost that. All of it. For nothing.
Absolutely love Disney Food TikTokers. They’re like “These nuggets are served with Goof sauce…but it just tastes like honey mustard.” Well yes. Goofy’s not actually back there inventing new culinary creations. There is no Chef Goofy transsubstantiation
The Rayman Legends remake looks great, I honestly don't mind the fact that they're going with 3D graphics this time cuz they're beautifully done, but...
Yeah, those character designs are not doing it for me at all.
Everything about them is just... Off.
If TBA was an original ride and not a replacement, I can guarantee the reception would have been much, MUCH more positive.
But of course, you can't say that without people deliberately misreading it as "I hate Tiana and think she should never have a ride anywhere in the parks."
@KateFisher96 Absolutely not. I don't care how good TBA could have been, Splash should have been left alone.
But of course, people will deliberately misinterpret that as me saying Tiana should never have a ride anywhere ever.
@KateFisher96 I've had people tell me this constantly. "All you do is complain."
Yeah, because you've given me something to complain about. Leave my interests alone and I won't complain, it's not rocket science.
"You're just nostalgia blind."
No, a ton things were just objectively better in the past, we need to accept that and stop coping with the enshittification of everything.
@BrerOswald I totally agree with the sentiment, I just hate how it's become yet another commercial holiday instead of what it's supposed to be.
Idk, I just find it all very corporate.
@KateFisher96 They know. They just want you to shut up about it. They weren't the ones at the butt end of it, so it means nothing to them.
It's like when you leave school and you meet your bullies in public, they act normal as if they never put you through years of mental abuse.
