@COParksWildlife I don't feel like the average person has enough information to make a well informed decision. Are there any resources you could point us towards?
Bats are gentle & intelligent creatures. We need bats! Insect-eating bats prevent diseases & save crops from pests & fruit-eaters pollinate plants. They're important to the environment - consider helping bats by building a bat box for your yard! #BatAppreciationDay
The giant fruit bat (from left to right: Nanner, Peach, Seymore & Luce) relies on its keen sense of smell for locating food. As the bat feeds & flies throughout the forest, it pollinates and disperses seeds, helping to regenerate plant growth in the ecosystem #batappreciationday
In honor of #BatAppreciationDay, we're happy to share that there are five furry new additions to DZCA! Earlier this week, we welcomed five male Indian flying foxes—marking the first time in over 25 years that this species has been at the Zoo, and over a decade since we've had any flying foxes in our care! 🤎
Our animal care specialists have named them Khirni, Bilimbi, Chikoo, Jamun, and Karonda, after fruits native to India. The team also shared that they’re settling in well, enjoy cantaloupe and love sun baking under their habitat’s UV lights.
While they’re still getting comfortable in their new space, you can see them now in El Pomar Village Hall inside Toyota Elephant Passage on your next visit! 🦇
