@PhilipProudfoot Imagine the press fall out. A good proportion of the media landscape up in arms at the “reinitiation of a desperate scheme to halt Reform’s rise to No. 10”.
Sad to hear of Parmod Kalia’s death. A former subpostmaster whose life Post Office tried to destroy, wrongly accusing a father of theft and getting him sent to prison.
I had the pleasure of spending time with him at his home last year. He died before receiving his compensation.
Here's a megathread on the war on Iran that focuses on the deeper dynamics, potential trajectories, and likely outcomes.
A lot will change over the next few weeks - this thread is about what won't.
Stay until the end for an announcement & an invitation.
Yesterday, we went down to Brixton tube station for the last ever day of Brixton News, one of the capital's last specialist news stands. TfL are raising the rent on the unit Pritesh Patel and his brother run from £40,000 a year to £125,000 a year, something they cannot afford.
Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy parked this absolute heartstopper of a song right in the middle of a hilarious mockumentary and I think about it a lot.
Ha, “leaked audio”. It’s obvs gross and illustrative to hear what’s said in the audio, and how it’s said, but I don’t trust that phrase AT ALL. What’s more interesting to me is the idea and likelihood that it got out ON PURPOSE.
Candace Owens released leaked audio from Turning Point USA in which Erika Frantzve Kirk is heard giggling and cheerfully discussing attendance figures, merchandise sales, and performance metrics from Charlie Kirk’s memorial event just 11 days after his death
@AbdelBeheri You think Woodward et al were better than INEOS?
I think they’ve signed mostly useful players:
Lammens, Heaven, De Ligt, Mazraoui, Mbeumo, Yoro
Jury out on Cunha, Dorgu, Seško
Pretty clearly not good enough/grossly misprofiled:
Zirkzee, Ugarte.
@hosang Not saying I’d want him, and Glasner obviously struggling to solve a few probs at Palace at the moment (especially without Sarr/Muñoz), but he’s proven himself to be pretty good, no? Certainly commands more respect than the other two. Best ‘PL proven’ option if we I sit on that.
@hosang@JacKLynch321@JohnF_MUFC And how do you factor in, for example, that De Ligt might be a better communicator than Konsa? Significant for a CB but not easily measured.
@hosang@JacKLynch321@JohnF_MUFC But doesn’t the way certain players performances dip & spike mean it can be difficult to separate individual quality from team performance (or how they’ve been profiled)? And therefore to be emphatic about saying “better player/squad” is difficult with being hyper specific.
@hosang@JacKLynch321@JohnF_MUFC Fair enough. Would you agree when someone says “better squad”/“better player” it’s useful to clarify assertions are based purely on *available* stats, as I think there are e.g., intangibles that are absolutely a factor in footie AND stats that can be interpreted different ways.
@hosang@JacKLynch321@JohnF_MUFC Why would that be speaking out of turn if you’re talking purely about statistics?
How do you factor in how players are platformed? E.g., I assume Dalot is a player with wildly fluctuating variables but someone like Muñoz unlikely to make your list of high performers pre-Glasner.
@hosang@JacKLynch321@JohnF_MUFC So is it just if they post better numbers across the majority of all metrics against peers in their position that makes them a better player?
