Haven’t been moved to buy a boxing book for some years but I’m very tempted by Pete Carvill’s Death of a Boxer. Reading just a couple of excerpts convinced me it might be one of those inputdownables.
@pete_carvill @BitebackPub Thanks Pete, that’s kind of you. I’ll check out the site and order. Really hope it does well. I can send you a link to a story I wrote when I left Boxing Monthly if you’re interested. Just let me know. All the best with the book.
@fightwriterone I agree. Davies didn’t look right during the pre-fight build-up. The stoppage was the right decision. Davies had a “vacant” look similar to the one worn by Carl “The Truth” Williams after he was knocked down by Mike Tyson.
@RawlingJohn@Russ180 I think Littler made a lot of people fall in love with darts again. I grew up watching Bristow, Lowe and Wilson and not since then have I felt the excitement Littler generated. Incredible talent matched only by his maturity and humility away from the oche. He deserves it all.
Watching a rerun of Luke Littler’s stunning win over RVB was like revisiting the golden days of darts. What a talent Littler is - and what a temperament. Completely fearless.
Still get the feeling Wilder is going to land a fight-ending punch and all the reports will say: ‘Parker was a mile in front but then…’ Hope I’m wrong.
@shaunrbrown Didn’t like Miller’s disrespect, particularly towards Joshua. You could see how irked AJ was. Considering their history, it’s surprising they weren’t paired, with Dubois boxing Wallin instead. Still, a great card although another oddly subdued press conference.
@fightwriterone I met Mickey in 1998 when he lived in Marble Arch. As we sat down to eat at the nearby Cumberland Hotel, Mickey quipped: “That’s the biggest starter I’ve ever seen.” He could be very funny but as you said in your BM tribute after he died, he had one of the great boxing minds.
