FIFA really needs to take a look at the World Cup qualification system.
I get it — for Curaçao, just reaching the World Cup is a historic achievement and a massive celebration.
But at the same time, teams like Italy, Denmark, Poland and others are sitting at home. Doesn't feel entirely fair.
Then again, Curaçao can now proudly say they performed at the same level as Brazil against Germany: lost 7-1

This is a fascinating David-vs-Goliath clash disguised as a Group Stage opener. The Netherlands arrive with a potent attacking pedigree (2.53 gf/avg, 93% teamscoredpct) and a blistering home record at AT&T Stadium (60% win rate, 2.8 gf/avg). However, their Achilles heel is defense: 0.93 ga/avg and only 33% clean sheets reveal a side that is cavalier in possession and vulnerable to transitions. Japan, by contrast, is a fortress on the road—70% away win rate, 0.53 ga/avg, and 67% clean sheets—but they are a low-scoring, disciplined machine. Their last five matches are littered with 1-0 and 2-0 wins, speaking to a structured, defensive approach that prioritizes solidity over flair. The external hint leans toward a Dutch win or draw (100% combined), reflecting market respect for the Netherlands' attacking superiority, yet the data suggests Japan's defensive discipline is underestimated. H2H history (Netherlands 1-0 win in 2010) offers minimal insight into modern tactical matchups, but it does hint at the Dutch's ability to find a goal when it matters. The 2-1 scoreline reflects a plausible scenario: Netherlands break through in the first half (exploiting early tempo advantage), Japan respond with a counter in the second half (their primary threat), but the Dutch's superior attacking output and home-field rhythm secure the three points. A draw is realistic if Japan's defensive shape holds and the Dutch waste chances, but the odds favor the hosts.

Germany vs Curaçao
This is a massive game for Germany, and not because of the opponent.
Ever since winning the World Cup in 2014, Germany have managed to crash out in the group stage at the next two tournaments. A third straight World Cup disaster would be an absolute embarrassment for a nation with their history.
Now Germany come into this tournament in great form. Five wins from their last five matches, including a 6-0 demolition of Slovakia, 4-0 against Finland and an impressive 4-3 away win against Switzerland. The goals are flowing and confidence is high.
As for Curaçao, they're already making history. With a population of only around 150,000 people, they've become the smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup, breaking Iceland's record.
And let's be honest — they've never faced anything close to Germany's level in a competitive match before. For Curaçao, even a single goal or a single point at this tournament would be a heroic achievement.
So the big question is: can Curaçao somehow make life difficult for the Germans, or are they about to get steamrolled?
My take Germany score at least three tonight.
What do you think — comfortable German win, or can Curaçao make a game of it?

@eurofootcom Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and Kaká — absolute legends of the game.
Sadly, today's Brazil just don't have players of that level and stature 🇧🇷⚽
First shock of the World Cup!
Switzerland were the overwhelming favourites. They scored early, controlled most of the game, created chance after chance and racked up 3+ xG.
But Qatar hung in there, kept fighting, and in the 90+5th minute punished the favourites for their wasteful finishing and complacency.
Football, eh?

Predicted final: Brazil 2 – 1 Morocco
Brazil · confidence 72%

Brazil enters as heavy favorites despite Morocco's impressive qualifying campaign, anchored by World Cup home advantage and demonstrably superior offensive form. The Selecção's last five matches show 3 wins with 11 goals, including back-to-back dominant displays (6-2 vs Panama, 2-1 vs Egypt just days ago), and they boast a 70% win rate at MetLife with 2.2 goals per game. Morocco, ranked second in the external data, has built a reputation for defensive solidity—0.4 GA per game over 15 matches and a pristine 67% clean sheet rate—but that resilience has been tested primarily against weaker competition (Burundi 5-0, Madagascar 4-0). Their last two matches (1-1 vs Ecuador, 1-1 vs Norway) hinted at offensive limitations when facing organised opposition.
The H2H history cuts both ways. Morocco's 2-1 victory over Brazil in March 2023 provides genuine confidence, yet that result was on home soil and occurred before Brazil's current hot streak. The tactical battle will likely revolve around Brazil's pressing intensity and transition speed—a hallmark of their home performances—versus Morocco's shape and defensive discipline. Brazil's 87% teamscoredpct and 60% BTTS% in season play contrast sharply with Morocco's 33% BTTS%, suggesting the home side will dominate possession and create more clear-cut chances. However, Morocco's away record (80% win rate, 0.5 GA) is genuinely elite, and their 2-1 H2H precedent cannot be ignored.
The venue and context are decisive. MetLife Stadium's conditions favour the team with energy and creativity—Brazil's profile—and World Cup Group Stage matches rarely produce tactical stagnation. Morocco must remain compact and punish breaks; Brazil must convert early dominance. Given Brazil's vastly superior recent form, home advantage, and higher xG output, a 2-1 Brazil victory is the modal outcome. BTTS is probable (68% confidence) because Morocco's counter-threat is real and Brazil's defence (33% CS rate) remains porous. A draw remains plausible (24%) given Morocco's elite defensive record and Brazil's mental fragility shown by the France loss, but the weight of evidence tilts home.
