32 years ago today was probably the highlight of my short life as an artist/concert promoter. I came up with the diabolical scheme of booking a series of shows with artists that I admired and booked them with the idea that me and my band would open the shows and then I would hang out with the artists and become best friends with them and we would always hang out and have barbecues and when I needed help moving or a ride to the airport they would drop everything and be there for me and vice versa.
So me and my dear friend and co promoter Henry Vaccaro Jr. along with the help of Bob Benjamin and legal eagle Terry Camp started booking the shows first at a club in long branch NJ called Marz that was owned by Anthony Palazzo, a friend of Henry’s and also soon to be my friend. Great guy, great club. We called the series of shows Marz American Style. We had a bunch of very badass shows with stellar artists like Nils Lofgren, Graham Parker, Dion, John Cale, Peter Case, Walter Egan, Joe Grushecky and many more.
After many cool summer nights of music at Marz we moved the series to a club in Sayreville NJ called the Playpen and that brings us to today’s anniversary. We booked a show with me and my band along with Greg Kihn, Marshall Crenshaw and Elliot Murphy. If that wasn’t enough Bruce Springsteen came out to see the show and as he is wont to do he jumped up onstage and tore the roof off the joint!

Set list with Bruce:

Hey Tonight
Suspicious Minds
Bang A Gong
Route 66
Gloria

Pretty sure it’s the only time Bruce played a T Rex song?

Anyway I want to thank my buddy Art Masciocchi for reminding me and sending me the photos and set list.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m expecting Marshall Crenshaw here any minute to help me move some boxes into my storage space.

On this day in 1980, Bruce Springsteen released ‘The River,’ a 20-song double album packed with barroom rockers, broken dreams and working-class stories. It became his first No. 1 album and gave us “Hungry Heart.”

What an absolute honor and privilege it was to have the iconic Darlene Love on the Spring-Nuts Cafe podcast last night. What a spectacular woman in every sense of the word. Her stories were inspiring and incredible. We had a ton of laughs and fun! Darlene even sang for us!

Here's a segment where Darlene talks about her history with @StevieVanZandt and @springsteen . How they met, how Stevie kept his promise to record her album, and how @MVZaGoGo is her go to in making sure everything is legit!

Do not waste your time with these imbeciles. "He defended you." 🙄 Defended you from what? His defending I'm sure carries so much weight...🙄
He doesn't know you and speaks for no one. If he only knew the compassion and love you have for animals not to mention humans, he should be embarrassed. Don't pay attention and let him disappear back into the ether. "Defended" 😂🙄
