Psalm 55:22 is one of the most quoted verses in the book of Psalms, and for good reason. 🤍It’s especially powerful when you’re overwhelmed, hurting, or have been hurt by someone you trusted.

David is deeply troubled in this Psalm. He describes his heart as being in pain, fear coming over him, and even wishing he could just fly away and find rest. What makes his pain even deeper is that it wasn’t an enemy who hurt him. It was someone close to him, someone he trusted and shared fellowship with.

Then comes this beautiful reminder:

“Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Psalm 55:22 🙏

The Psalm doesn’t tell us that we won’t have burdens. David certainly did. It shows us what to do with them.
Give them to the Lord.

We don’t have to fix everything. We don’t have to understand everything. We don’t have to carry everything ourselves.

I also love how David ends the Psalm. After pouring out all of his hurt, fear, and disappointment before God, he ends with these simple words:

“But I will trust in You.”

Sometimes that’s all we can say. 🥹
Lord, I don’t understand it, but I will trust You. 🙏

Hi Ruth. I’m not sure what’s happening in your life right now, but I know that Jesus certainly does. I’ve been dealing with a lot of heartbreak and various trials myself for what seems like years now. I’ve cried more tears than I ever thought I had.
One thing I keep hearing in my spirit is the Lord’s promise, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Sometimes when everything else feels uncertain, I have to remind myself that He hasn’t gone anywhere. He is still with us in the middle of the pain, even when we don’t understand what He is doing.
I’m praying for you. 🙏 ❤️

The Jews preserved these writings, some were certainly read & valued, but they were not ultimately included in the Jewish canon of inspired Scripture. The early church was not unanimous about the extra books. Some accepted them as Scripture, while others distinguished them from the Hebrew canon. The disagreement existed for centuries before Rome *dogmatically defined its canon at Trent in 1546. So, no. It’s 66 God-breathed, inspired books of Scripture. 🙏

This is why we spread the gospel…faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The gospel itself is God’s means of bringing people to faith. Jesus said that when He was lifted up on the cross, He would draw all people to Himself. Just as the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness & all those who looked to it lived, Christ was lifted up so that whoever believes in Him will have life.

If you can balance it well, that’s great. I obviously failed to do that. I spent many years working to elect conservatives. I volunteered for campaigns, went door to door, attended rallies, spent countless hours phone banking thousands of people, registered people to vote, served as a county chair for the Cruz campaign, put up signs, and used social media to promote candidates. I even had my kids involved at some of the rallies.
Looking back, I don’t think any of it led to much besides disappointment after disappointment. These people make promise after promise to get elected, and within a couple of years, most of them sell out to special interests, donors, party leadership, or whoever else has influence over them.
I poured way too much of my time and energy into politics thinking we could change things if we just elected the right people. Eventually, I realized (through a lot of prayer) that politics had taken up a place in my life that it never should have occupied. I’ve repented and I am not looking back. I will vote if I have someone to vote for, but God changed my priorities. I’ve never felt more peace about a decision in my entire life.
