Alberta Referendum: What Went Wrong and What Comes Next?
As I promised a few days ago, I want to offer my synopsis of the Alberta Referendum held on October 19. This is my opinion, based on how I see things. I recognize that what I am about to say will ruffle a few feathers and that I may lose followers, but c'est la vie!
The good news is that over 520,000 Albertans, or more than 25%, support Alberta independence. That is a base to build upon. Over 40% of rural Albertans voted in favour of Option 2. The truth is that Albertans have no appetite for another referendum right now. Perhaps in five or even ten years, things might be different.
Now, here comes the brutally honest assessment of what went wrong with the Alberta independence movement and why Option 2 failed.
The truth is that the independence movement was never truly united, and we lacked a ground game in large and medium-sized urban centres. Yes, our opponents, including Kenney, Lukaszuk, and Smith, were dishonest, but they had the machinery behind them, they had the money, and they were united, even though we strongly disagreed with their message.
In fact, there were factions and infighting within the Alberta independence movement that hurt public perception tenfold.
What I am about to share will not be very popular, but it needs to be addressed. I personally hold Jeff Rath responsible for why Option 2 failed so miserably. He stroked his own ego and picked public fights with Cory Morgan and Berta Proud Dad. He was also publicly belligerent toward Keith Wilson, Tanya Clemens, Chris Scott, Bruce Pardy, Nadine Wellwood, and Jason Lavigne, among others, who chose to take the high road.
Instead of airing the dirty laundry in private, Rath continued to attack their character in the public domain, mainly on X. His constant attacks were very detrimental to the campaign, as mainstream media outlets and independent supporters exposed him for who he is.
When I signed up as a canvasser for Stay Free Alberta and participated in pop-up events and slow rolls for the Alberta Prosperity Project (APP), as well as engaging with people on Facebook and X, many people told me they disliked Jeff Rath. For some, that alone was the reason they voted for Option 1. It was not necessarily the message of independence they rejected, but rather the conduct of a lawyer who acted like a schoolyard bully and disrespected voters.
When Jeff Rath referred to Keith Wilson as "Benedict Arnold," it revealed the kind of character he was displaying. Not only did he appear selfish, but he also came across as a bully who proclaimed himself the leader of the Alberta independence movement when he clearly was not. Given the fact that he had previously donated to the federal Liberals and the Alberta NDP, his ulterior motives should be questioned by every independence supporter and UCP proponent.
With the recent allegations and accusations that Rath and Mitch Sylvestre mishandled donations and mistreated the APP Board of Directors, the APP will need to address these problems if it wants to remain relevant in the future. The public allegations made by Chris Scott and Tanya Clemens suggest that the APP needs to clean house and refocus on its original purpose: an educational initiative intended to unite Albertans around the case for sovereignty.
Another reason we failed so miserably was the lack of a ground game in Edmonton, Calgary, and smaller urban centres such as Spruce Grove, Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat. Option 2 received less than 20% support in the two largest cities and less than 30% support in smaller urban centres.
During July's slow roll, I expressed my concerns to Mitch Sylvestre and Darlene Clarke, the regional APP manager for Edmonton. I argued that we needed to focus on urban centres instead of small towns, where we were essentially preaching to the choir.
Controlled opposition? You're likely responsible for a 15% drop in support for alberta independence because of your ego- stroking appearances in the media and early comments about 51 state. Nearly every person I've talked to including Mitch by the way puts that on you. You just couldn't think before you posted and it cost us dearly. The damage continued unabated after you "counselled" Mitch to " get rid of" a board full of good people who were and still are committed to Alberta. And why did you and Mitch "see an opportunity to get rid of a board and take it?" Because YOU were being called out for overbilling AND losing every challenge in court AND failing to keep the society on the right side of the rules and Mitch was being called out for fake Facebook memes being presented as fact during his 90 minute APP presentation. APP needed to take the next step with a new ceo and instead of discussing that you two broke the rules for your own interests.
You and Mitch- your giant egos, your narcissism that caused dozens of volunteers to quit, inability to think before you spoke, constant push to "become political, " your delusion that the entire world was out to get you, and you both abandoning basic decency towards other people suggests you are either complete retards or you're controlled opposition. I think you're a smart guy, so that leaves controlled opposition.
I'll point out that likely dozens of people approached you and tried to reason with you and every single person who did is now on your "controlled opposition list". You have a god complex Jeff and it does not appear to be going well for you. Sad.
What if becoming Prime Minister of Canada was just a stepping stone to Mark Carney’s NEXT job? 🇨🇦🇪🇺
Could Canada’s sudden EU pivot have implications beyond trade and Donald Trump? And what exactly would this unprecedented partnership allow?
While there’s no evidence Carney is seeking Ursula’s position, the timing and many coincidences certainly raise some fascinating questions.
The EU just signed a deal forcing Australian farmers to feed their cows Bovaer.
To save the climate.
Meanwhile calves are dying in Denmark.
But at least the agreement is signed. 🐄☠️
With midterm elections behind us, here are 3 big predictions for 2027.
First, the trade war between Canada and the U.S. will end out of economic necessity. Second, the Clarity act will finally pass and third, the war in the Middle East will be over.
I always thought ##LetsGoOilers should have a black jersey. The hometown mix is wasn't what I had mind. It should be similar to the Copper and Blue Jersey.
As a hockey mom, I find it absolutely disgusting that young Russian hockey players are being punished for the actions of their country’s leader.
These young men didn’t start a war. They’re hockey players who have dedicated years of their lives to a sport they love.
And let’s not forget their families.
The countless hours at the rink. The early mornings, the endless travel, the financial sacrifices, and the years spent supporting their sons’ dreams of going as far as they possibly can in hockey.
As a hockey mom, I know firsthand what families give up to get their children to this level.
And now, because of politics, those dreams and opportunities are being taken away.
Mark Carney, these young men are not responsible for Vladimir Putin’s decisions.
Since when did we decide that punishing young athletes for the actions of their government was acceptable?
Hockey should bring people together, not divide them.
Absolutely disgusting.
People who let Blackface Boy Trudeau ruin the country for a decade-- electing him three times-- have their panties in a bunch about an NHL star visiting the WH. Canada is not a serious country. But don't worry. After Carney is through you won't have any country left.
Nenshi knew about Calgary's water problems, but kept the report hidden from his own Council.
That's because HE wanted to build winter bike lanes and host drag queen story sessions at the Library.
That wasn't bad enough.
Now he wants to run the province into the ground.
NEW ARTICLE: IVERMECTIN and MEBENDAZOLE Testimonial - 50 year old UK woman with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer reports after 1 year
More Ivermectin success in the UK! 😃
STORY:
50 year old UK woman with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer
In August 2025 she started:
Ivermectin 1mg/kg/day
Mebendazole 1500mg/day
Chemo
More recently, she has moved to a stronger combination of Mebendazole 2000mg + Fenbendazole 1000mg.
Results after 1 year and surgery: stable small lymph nodes, no other signs of disease activity.
"My oncologist explained that overall this indicates that there has been a very good response to the treatment"
Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer is one of the "incurable" conditions that may become "curable" with the addition of repurposed drugs.
Oncology doesn't have a solution for Stage 4 Ovarian cancer otherwise.
The Ivermectin Cancer revolution is moving forward, whether it's USA, UK, Australia or other, more distant parts of the world.
There is no stopping it.
Let's see if we can get Mark Cuban @mcuban involved in improving Ivermectin access to all Americans and maybe even beyond! 💪
BREAKING: Nenshi’s office ignored dire warnings that caused Calgary water chaos. When water main issues were put on Nenshi's desk, he shrugged, and deliberately withheld information from city council. The NDP leader should resign.
