@ljin18 Spur creators reinvest a large % of the currency (kudos) they earn on simple stories back into the community, tipping other creators' stories. Data shows LT earnings correlate w/generosity. Paying it forward works. Our kudos = a form of social capital
@ianrborthwick Seems there's a conflict between doing monetization and sponsored posts on the same platform? Many of the creators we surveyed said they thought direct monetization would jeopardize their standing w brands
@TaylorLorenz@fadeke_adegbuyi We're thrilled that gifting relationships from the basis of Spur rather than exchange relationships. It makes for a much more positive and uplifting social experience.
@TaylorLorenz@fadeke_adegbuyi We just did a survey of our top creators asking which is most important to them: views, likes, follower growth, receiving kudos ( $ redeemable) or giving kudos. #1 was giving kudos. Not very parasocial of them!
We don't allow camera uploads on Spur because 1) we are a platform for all creators. A solo creator who has to compete for attention vs creators w/ production teams gets discouraged. Individuality/authenticity is a casualty of this competition
will be able to introduce monetization without grievously violating the rights of creators the monetization is meant to benefit. We believe it's a big question that needs to be answered before the creator economy can really take flight
Creators on traditional social media have to build an audience before they can begin monetizing. Most donโt hit the algorithmic jackpot on TikTok and acquire an audience overnight. A daunting amount of investment is required. Blood, sweat, tears and time ...
Spur is not minting millionaire creators... yet. But many are cash flowing enough to materially support their creative work. And they are doing this while supporting other creators w a % of their kudos and growing their audience
@ljin18 You've inspired us to look into allowing creators to convert the kudos (our in app currency) they earn on our platform into equity, not just cash. It's a great idea, thank you
@MsYoungProfess Thatโs what weโre doing at Spur. Everyone is a creator and everyone monetizes. It works because creators support each other. Weโre viral in South America because weโre the 1st monetization opportunity so many for talented global creators
