Issuance of visas to families has decreased, but issuance for other visa categories has more than doubled. This is an issue of priorities.
@usambkeny, @USEmbassyKenya Please prioritize families!
@USAmbKenya
Amb. Whitman, Nairobi is now processing 44% more IVs annually than pre-Covid. But, family visas are fewer than pre-Covid! Children and spouses now face a 2-year wait that keeps getting longer. This is not fair.
@USEmbassyKenya, please return your focus to families!
@USAmbKenya@USEmbassyKenya
Congressional inquiries on family IV interviews showed that in June you were sending ILs to people DQ in Oct 2022. In July, similar inquiry replies say for July you are processing ILs for DQ June 2022! Do you have a time machine?!? Or... How????
@USAmbKenya@DrSianProctor Good work on this, @USAmbKenya
But your lack of attention to family visa backlog is not good work. Nairobi has one of the worst backlogs globally. You solved the tourist visa backlog, but Americans' spouses and children must wait 2 years for an interview?!? Please fix this!!!
American families are separated for years by Nairobi's family visa backlog. Many of us worry that if Trump wins, we will still be waiting for interviews when his person takes charge of the "shit hole country" @USEmbassyKenya.
@USAmbKenya, please help while you still can!
@USAmbKenya Meg, I married in Kenya and submitted I-130 before you became Ambassador. If Kamala doesn't win, my wife will still be waiting for her visa interview when your job ends. Please address family visa backlogs while still Ambassador. @USEmbassyKenya
@USAmbKenya@USEmbassyKenya Your work is to serve America and its citizens. So why do you prioritize visitor visas and non-family IVs while forgetting US citizens' family members? Is that really service to the American citizens you should serve?
The chart shows % of immigrant visas issued to Americans' spouses, children, and parents (CR/IR1 to 5). The data is by region from Jan '23 to May '24.
@USEmbassyKenya
you have a special line. Why is Nairobi
a statistical outlier? @USAmbKenya please notice!
@juelz_spash@USEmbassyKenya@USAmbKenya Most US embassies made family visas a priority, reducing their backlogs to one or few months. @USAmbKenya can you please address us? When will we be a priority for @USEmbassyKenya? We have lives to plan, and "one to several years" is hard to plan around!
I am a US citizen. Since marrying a Kenyan, I have seen another Kenyan apply to study nursing in the US, get visa, travel, complete studies, fall in love, and get engaged in the US. But us today, we still have a 1+ year wait. Why? @USAmbKenya@USEmbassyKenya
@USAmbKenya@USEmbassyKenya
For a Kenyan married to US citizen the fastest way to reach the US is: 1) divorce, 2) get B1 visa, 3) travel to US & remarry. That's 6-12 months. Remaining married? 3+ years. Is this not strange? It's only your embassy though.
@USAmbKenya@USEmbassyKenya for family visas like IR1, you have been processing October 2022 since April. That's 4 months work for 1 month of backlog. Does that mean 20 months backlog x4 is 80 months (6.5 years) that separated families will wait???
Nairobi only issued 36% of IVs to family categories since Jan 2023. That's half of US posts' global average, and almost the lowest globally. NBI's family backlog is longer than ever, getting worse. E3 and DV get 2x more visas. Please stop ignoring families!
@USAmbKenya Nairobi prioritizes DVs and E3s for immigrant visas at the expense of US citizens family members. Nairobi has not moved beyond Oct 2022 for months now. Why are you ignoring families? Why are you silent on this?
@USAmbKenya Nairobi is processing fewer family immigrant visas than pre COVID. You issued more IVs in January 2024 than Jan 2020, but far fewer to family categories. Please prioritize families.
@USAmbKenya@KoinangeJeff#jklive Why do Kenyans waiting for green card interview have to wait longer to interview than nearly all other nationalities? Is business a higher priority than family? Nairobi is 9 of 9 in Africa among big US embassies prioritizing family visas.
@USAmbKenya@KoinangeJeff#jklive Kenyans and Ameicans marry a lot. Why does the US embassy in Nairobi have a family visa issuance rate that's among the lowest on earth? Is business a higher priority than US citizens' families?
