On this Flag Day, we are reminded of what our flag represents: freedom and justice. Our 51-star flags displayed along Pennsylvania Ave. today, remind us of the need to fulfill this promise and deliver full democracy to 700,000 tax-paying American citizens. #DCStatehood#FlagDay
On June 1, 1796, Tennessee was admitted as the 16th state into the Union, paving the way for 6 other states to gain admission to the Union, through what has become known as the "Tennessee Plan". DC has satisfied all 4 conditions of this plan and awaits Senate passage of S. 51.
Today marks the date in 1802 when Washington, DC was incorporated as a city and given a mayor-council form of government. The disenfranchisement of DC residents has been described as an “accident” of history, one that we have been fighting to correct for over 200 years.
What a beautiful and powerful way to show support for DC Statehood! Thank you @LWVDC and Virginia Hodge of DC Quilters and everyone who poured their energy into these amazing pieces of art! Look forward to the in-person exhibit!

Every other state manages their own local affairs, yet residents of DC have to contend with a Congress that constantly meddles in our issues. Solution? #DCStatehoodNow.

Today, we witness history with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing. This historic moment would have made even more stride, if DC residents also got to participate in this process, like every other American citizen. #JudgeKetanjiBrownJackson#DCStatehoodNOW
Today, @SpeakerPelosi hosted a ceremony with Congressional leaders, @EleanorNorton, @MayorBowser and @ChmnMendelson to unveil D.C.’s second statue. This historic step towards statehood gives D.C. two statues in the Capital, a privilege each state is entitled to under federal law.
Tomorrow DC's second statue in the US Capitol will be unveiled in a ceremony hosted by @SpeakerPelosi.
Each state is entitled to two statues in the Capitol, so DC’s second statue will be a symbolic step toward #DCStatehood.
