Left Parties Condemn Harassment of Bengali Citizens in Odisha.

Bhubaneswar, July 10, 2025:

Left political parties, including CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) Liberation, and All India Forward Bloc, strongly condemn the increasing harassment and oppression of ordinary Bengali citizens under the BJP government across Odisha.The statement highlights a disturbing incident in Brajarajnagar, Jharsuguda district, where approximately 200 poor labourers from West Bengal, earning a living through small jobs like selling brooms, were detained by police at 11 PM two days ago. These workers, primarily from marginalized communities, were asked to produce birth certificates or passports, while their Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and ration cards were not accepted.This is a clear violation of their constitutional rights and human https://t.co/f80fUCOLxC hampers their social security.Such incidents are not isolated to Jharsuguda but are reported across Odisha in places like Athagarh, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Paradip, Mahanga, Malkangiri, and Dharmagarh. Poor, Dalit, Adivasi, and minority communities are facing severe atrocities.
Labeling Bengali-speaking individuals as "Bangladeshi" or treating Muslims with hostility threatens India's secular Character and brotherhood.On July 9, 2025, a joint meeting of the Left parties was held at Nagabhushan Bhawan to protest these actions.The parties demand an immediate stop to such disrespectful treatment of citizens and the release of those detained. They also state that while no one opposes lawful verification, harassing ordinary citizens under the pretext of investigation is unacceptable and violates Supreme Court rulings.

The Left parties urge the authorities to respect citizens' rights and ensure justice.
