Cash withdrawals are changing. Is your business ready?

From 1 January 2027, Bank of Uganda’s over-the-counter cash withdrawal limits will apply to accounts at supervised financial institutions:

• Individuals: UGX 50 million daily; UGX 250 million weekly.
• Corporate/business accounts: UGX 500 million daily; UGX 2.5 billion weekly.

These caps do not apply to digital payments such as RTGS and Electronic Funds Transfers. Financial institutions may set lower limits based on customer risk profiles, while BoU may approve exceptions for particular transactions or sectors at the institutions’ request.

For cash-dependent businesses, now is the time to review supplier payments, payroll and banking arrangements.
