VOICES OF CHANGE

Prof. Wangari Maathai was more than an environmentalist. She was a force of nature. With bare hands and boundless resolve, she turned tree planting into a movement that restored landscapes and transformed lives. Through the Green Belt Movement, she planted over 30 million trees, shielding Kenya’s forests and inspiring global change.​

Her fearless activism led her from the grassroots to the halls of leadership, making history as the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2003, she was appointed Assistant Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Wildlife. But her true legacy lives in the thriving trees, empowered communities, and the resilience she nurtured.​

At I&M Foundation, we walk in her footsteps, inspired by her unwavering belief that change begins at the grassroots. As we champion conservation, we honour her.​
