If you must reflect on anything online today it should be this post from @TheMutambuze’. Having worked for decades, I wish I knew what he shared early in my career 😔.

That said it is never too late to catch up. So here goes:

1. First, you must create value ( what skill set do you have that is essential / can solve a problem.?) Who else has the same skill and what makes you different?

2. Second, if no one knows about it then the first is redundant. So communicate the value boldly & unapologetically but humbly 🙏 ofcourse.

3. Third, when you get a chance you better deliver as expected otherwise you lose credibility & word spreads pretty fast. Once you lose the credibility you may have to work doubly hard to earn it.

4. Last but not least, make sure you negotiate well and get paid what you are worth. If you bake the best pie, there is nothing sadder than eating crumbs. Many of us do not get our pies worth because we do not know how to negotiate. (This here is a special skill I am still perfecting from @TheMutambuze.)
