Prior to the Tarot cards, Hierophant was the title of the chief priest of the Eleusinian mysteries. He was elected for life from the Eumolpid family. He was the only one who had the right to enter Anactoron, the holiest place of the sanctuary. Before the consecration, he proclaimed: murderers, defiled and "barbarians" are not included. In the climax, he came out of the darkness in a sudden light and showed that hierá - sacred things. Sometimes it was an ear, shown in silence.

If you make any effort at all, enlightenment becomes impossible for you. If you bring your mind with all its tensions and worries to work out your enlightenment, you are moving in the wrong direction, away from enlightenment.

You need a total let-go, an utterly peaceful, tensionless, silent state of being. And suddenly: the explosion. You are all born enlightened whether you realize it or not.

Society does not want you to realize it. Religions don’t want you to realize it. Politicians don’t want you to realize it because it goes against every vested interest. They are living and sucking your blood because you are unenlightened. They are able to reduce the whole of humanity into stupid labels: Christian, Hindu, Mohammedan, as if you are things, commodities. They have labeled on your forehead who you are.

In India you will actually find brahmins with symbols on their foreheads. You can see the symbol and you can recognize to which class of brahmin this man belongs. These are means or commodities. They have their symbols marked on their foreheads. You may not have your symbol marked, but you know deep down it is engraved within your being that you are a Christian, that you are a Buddhist, that you are a Hindu.

If you all become enlightened, you will be simply light, a joy to yourself and to others, a blessing to yourself and to the whole of existence. You will be the ultimate freedom; nobody can exploit you, nobody can in any way enslave you. That is the problem: nobody wants you to become enlightened. Unless you see the point, you will go on playing into the hands of the vested interests, which are all parasites. Their only function is how to suck blood out of you.

If you want freedom, enlightenment is the only freedom. If you want individuality, enlightenment is the only individuality. If you want a life full of blessings, enlightenment is the only experience. And it is very easy, utterly easy; it’s the one thing you don’t have to do anything to get, because it is already there. You just have to relax and see it.

Hence in India we have nothing parallel to Western philosophy. Philosophy means thinking about truth, love of knowledge. In India what we have is a totally different thing. We call it darshan. Darshan does not mean thinking, it means seeing.

XIII "Death" is the most incomprehensible card of the deck. Almost never about physical death.

On this log, a skeleton in dark armor sits on a white horse. One hand has a long spear, the other has a black flag with a golden lily. The red moon is burning over the gorge. On the ground lies the king in a crown and with a sloe, and white roses are already growing next to him. On the right are two: a monk on his knees and a man in red looking up. Castle, river, mountains. Death goes straight and does not ask anyone.

The history of the map goes back to the medieval "Dances of Death" and the plague of the XIV century: the skeleton mows everyone - kings, bishops, beggars. In the Marseille Tarot XIII arcane often without a name at all ("nameless arcane"), as if the word itself was forbidden. In 1909, Ryder-Wight made him a horseman of the Apocalypse: a white horse, a black banner, a fallen king.

The main secret of the map: the sun in the classic version does not set, but rises between two towers. Even here, where the sky is bloody, roses are already breaking through the royal mantle. Death does not destroy - it removes the form that has outlived.

The number 13 in the West is "unlucky", but 1+3=4 is the Emperor, the new order after the collapse. The Hebrew letter Nun means "fish" and "grow". Astrology - Scorpio: a crisis that gives birth to another creature.

XV "The Devil" is not about Satan from hell, but about his own chains.

On this map, a mighty horned creature with the wings of a bat stands on a stone pedestal with a skull. There is a pentagram on the chest and a torch in the right hand. There are two chained people at the bottom: on the left is almost a demon with horns and fire, on the right is a man with long hair. Dark starry sky, mountains, heavy golden frame.

History: appeared in Italian logs of the XV century. In the Marseille Tarot, the Devil is a bizarre creature with breasts, eyes on his knees and lion's paws. The modern image is almost entirely taken from Baphomet Elifas Levy (1855), the horned goat of Mendes, which was adapted by Ryder and Pamela Colman Smith in 1909.

Main detail: chains on the necks are often loose. They can be removed. The map is not about an external demon, but about self-imposed slavery - addictions, materialism, toxic connections, obsession with power or pleasure.

The number 15 is reduced to 6. Astrology — Capricorn and Saturn. The Hebrew letter Ain means "eye": we see the surface and accept the illusion for the only reality.

Direct position - dependence, temptation, control, shadow. Turned over is a chance to drop the shackles.

The devil does not punish the Tarot. It shows where you have already agreed to be a slave.

XIV "Temoration" is a card of the exact hand, not strength.

On this map, the winged angel stands barefoot on the shore: one foot on a stone, the other almost in the water. From a golden jug, water is poured into the bowl with a thin ribbon. Behind the night sky, ahead of the valley, the river and the sun over the mountains. Irises grow on the left. No blow. Only a measure.

The history of the card is the medieval virtue of the temperantia: to dilute the wine with water and not fall into extremes. In the early logs, it was a woman with two vessels. Elifas Levi made her an angel who mixes "two essences of the elixir of life". Ryder-Waite added one foot on the ground and one in the water, a path to the mountains and the sun behind his head. In Toth Crowley's Tarot, this card is called Art - the art of synthesis, not just restraint.

The water flows at an angle, as if ignoring physics. This is the main gesture of the arcana: to connect what seems incompatible - spirit and body, feelings and calculation - so as not to spill a single drop.

Astrology - Sagittarius. The number 14 is reduced to 5: change due to balance, not due to explosion. The Hebrew letter Sameh is a support, something that holds the structure while everything is mixed inside.

Straight position - harmony, patience, healing, correct proportion. Inverted - skew, impatience, bad mixture, when one began to suffocate the other.

Moderation is not about wanting less. It is about pouring exactly as much as the bowl can withstand.
