Years 1-6 participated in a cricket coaching session on Tuesday. The activities were great fun, keeping the children really active and engaged whilst developing their batting and fielding skills. Thanks to Ollie Forbes (Community coach) and the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation
A group of our Y6 pupils played in a netball tournament at Oxstalls Arena, this week.
The team had three good wins and one narrow loss but throughout the entire afternoon they showed great use of space, superb defending and epic shooting! Fantastic parent support too :)
Writers Corner
The children produce some wonderful writing each week so we are taking the opportunity to celebrate their efforts by publishing their efforts. Reception class have been planning journeys to space and carefully considering what to pack in their individual suitcases
Chess Club
Year 6 are enjoying Chess club on a Thursday lunchtime! We would like to extend the invitation to any Year 5s who are keen to practise their chess skills or learn how to play.
Today, Year 2 joined parishioners and community members at St John's Church for the Armistice Day service. Thank you to Rev. Jade for inviting us and to all our parent helpers.
Year 5 have been reflecting upon class the work servicemen and servicewomen do their communities. We made poppies and wrote down some reflections within them for our class altar.
Year 3 combined their history studies and food technology skills, in creating their very own stew. They researched the food eaten during the Mesolithic Era and prepared and chopped the ingredients to go into their stew. The children loved tasting and evaluating their creations!
Year 4 are enjoying their class trumpet lessons. The noise is rather loud, but my goodness they are good! They are listening beautifully to the instructions and making huge progress in just a few weeks.
Year 5 have been learning about the Oba’s palaces of the Benin Kingdom. We learned that they had grand brass plaques to decorate the palaces and decided to create some of our own. We were very pleased with our final products and think they would look perfect in an Oba’s palace!
Geography
As part of our Water, Weather and Climate topic, Year 3 have been learning about the difference between weather and climate. We even had a go at being meteorologists for the afternoon!
Year 1 Design Technology
We tasted fruit to decide which ones we wanted in our smoothies. We then chopped, peeled and whizzed our chosen fruit. We made labels for our product to encourage people to try them (like in the shops). We then tried them to see how tasty they were!
Year 6 enjoyed a great retreat day at Prinknash Abbey, last week. The children had lots of opportunities for reflection, prayer (& cake!). Thanks to Miss Payne (for planning and preparing the day), to Mandy Baker (Chaplain at SPHS) and Fr Paul (who led the end of retreat mass).
