.@StMichaelsFWL was closed, occupied by pigeons for 15 years. Reopened in 2014, after years of steady growth it is open again as a parish church after a building project - great worship space, active congregational life, local community work etc. There's life in the CofE yet

Incredibly exciting on Sunday to be back in our much-loved yet long-neglected building after a year of refurbishment! St Michael's resounded once more with thanks and praise to God for his goodness and grace! 🙌🎉

What a world-changing finish! Do not be afraid - Jesus is risen, just as he promised. Our King has destroyed death! All authority is his, and we have a great commission to call all nations to follow him. Church, we're on a mission for our Saviour! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch28

That dreadful, wonderful day. Jesus's innocent blood was poured out for the guilty. Judas refused it. Did Barabbas come to know it? The centurion saw it. God's Son, enduring darkness and death, brought us light and life with him forever. Hallelujah! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch27

And so it begins. The authorities arrest Jesus, aided by Judas's betrayal. But Jesus continues to show his disciples that this must happen: his blood must be "poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins". They desert him, but he'll die for them. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch26

Some unsettling words from Jesus: when he returns the true allegiance of our hearts will be exposed. Have we lived just for ourselves? Or does our readiness to live for our King and love his children show that we're citizens of his heavenly kingdom? #matthewlockdownchallenge ch25

Jesus prepared his disciples for two great cataclysms:
1. The temple's violent destruction
2. Christ's final return at the end of the age.
The first already happened when the Romans attacked in AD70. The second is yet to come; we need to be ready! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch24

Corrupt religious leaders are always a plague in this world, serving themselves and putting burdens on others. Jesus is uncompromisingly against them! He came to SERVE, giving his life - and expects his disciples and their leaders to do the same. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch23

King Jesus invites everyone to his heavenly banquet! But some of those invited will refuse to come: we see them trying to trap him with insincere trick questions. Beware that tactic today! Christ's wisdom shines through for those willing to listen. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch22

What kind of King arrived in Jerusalem 2000 years ago? A gentle King, riding on a donkey, received with delight by the humble crowds who longed for him. And a conquering King, overturning exploiters and opposing the corrupt occupying authorities. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch21

On his way to Jerusalem to die for us, Jesus tells a parable about God's grace: he gives equally to each of us without regard for our works. Yet his disciples are still angling for better seats in heaven! Let's receive God's generosity without envy. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch20

Jesus has words for the hard-hearted: those who thought spouses could be dumped on a whim, or who tried to keep children from hearing Jesus, or whose love of money kept them from loving God. Who then can be saved? With God all things are possible! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch19

Why the extreme threats of v6-9? Because God cares so deeply for his children that anyone deliberately harming them will face his wrath. Makes sense: I'd do the same for my kids. We have a VERY loving Heavenly Father - so let's care for each other! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch18

They know he's God's Son, so Jesus gives the disciples a glimpse of his heavenly majesty. They're terrified, so he says "don't be afraid" - again! Back on earth there's unbelief, death, and even taxes: God has truly become man, to bring us to God. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch17

Do you see who he is yet?! The religious teachers of the day couldn't see it, but God gave his disciples open eyes to see that Jesus is the promised Messiah, the Son of God. And yet, they wouldn't accept that he had come to die. Half blind still? #matthewlockdownchallenge ch16

The Pharisees thought sin was just external stuff to keep away from, and so they blindly tried to keep Israelites pure. Jesus knew that sin comes from deep within us all, and so he came to save everyone - see him reaching both Jews and Gentiles! #matthewlockdownchallenge ch15

Would you have been terrified by Jesus's miracles? The younger Herod was! He hated it when God troubled his conscience. Even the disciples were naturally terrified at first. But Jesus said many times, "don't be afraid" - and poured out compassion. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch14

Sit by a lakeside and listen to Jesus speaking - about listening - from a boat! Turns out his parables were not just to make things memorable, but to draw in only those who were genuinely listening. So... let's listen! And find priceless treasure. #matthewlockdownchallenge ch13
