Year 5 watched ‘Abbie Ayer and the Shed of Science’ theatre production this morning, learning about the importance of air quality and sustainable travel. Thanks to TfGM for this experience and to @theatrepie.
Year 5 had a visit from Dr Diane today. She is the UK’s only Maya archaeologist – she really is an expert! She talked to us about her time spent excavating different Maya sites, and shared with us her experiences. We had workshops where we got to examine lots of artefacts.
Year 5 have been busy delving into ‘Flotsam’ by David Wiesner, as part of our English this half term. Digging through sand trays to infer character profiles has kicked off the unit beautifully.
Today, our Year 5 pupils had the incredible opportunity to hear from Matt Dickinson, the award-winning filmmaker, writer, mountaineer and explorer! His inspiring presentations sparked curiosity and finished off our ‘Mountains’ topic perfectly. Thanks for sharing your story!
Yesterday St Thomas hosted other schools in the local area for a KS2 Cross Country Event. It was fantastic to see approximately 300 of our children active, happy and enjoying sport. Well done everybody

Yesterday we took a KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 team to Stockport School of Gymnastics for the RISE gymnastics tournament hosted by @StockportSHAPES.
We had a great time and some of our children won certificates for their determination!
We had the pleasure of taking 6 of our Year 6 children to Stockport Grammar this week, to take part in a Mock Trial Event. The children put on a VERY convincing performance as the ‘defence’ team, for a cyber bullying case.⚖️📚
In Y6AH, we have been focusing on the poignant realities of war through the lens of poetry. Inspired by Wilfred Owen's heart-wrenching imagery, we explored themes of sacrifice, and the haunting truths of conflict to emulate his writing.
Y6AH have been involved in a wonderful opportunity to create a Christmas advertisement for the local company, Karcher. The winning design will be displayed on a billboard in Reddish next week!
This week Y4MA had some special visitors! Some students from St Anne’s high school came in to teach them a football session alongside our coaches from @SCFCCommunity. It was great for the high school children to build their leadership skills and the Y4 children loved it!
