Ethiopia is redefining its global presence. By pivoting from hard power to a strategy of soft power, infrastructure-led growth, and regional economic integration, the nation has evolved from a passive observer into a key global agenda-setter. Read more about this diplomatic evolution

Not a surprise that Al Shabaab is gaining ground when it provides predictability and government services while Somali regime engages in political drama. I’ll say it again, Mogadishu should bring its own house in order not try to ruin Somaliland next door! https://t.co/BHz2Nl03dQ
It makes sense for Nigeria to institute State level policing to bring law enforcement to local level. But it must be funded with strict oversight, else it's introducing yet one more uniformed force which will prey on public and add to insecurity!

Today in Hawassa, Sidama Region, we proudly inaugurate the Toyo Phase 2, Origin, and Lumintech solar factories, alongside the HZ Gas plant at Hawassa Industrial Park.
Together, the solar facilities will generate 11.3 gigawatts of clean energy annually, while HZ Gas will supply 900 tons of oxygen, 40,000 tons of nitrogen, and 7 tons of hydrogen each year. These four projects have created numerous jobs, expanding opportunity and powering livelihoods. Their production capacity is immense, but so is Ethiopia’s potential!

Two productive meetings in London this week:
1. UK-Africa Policy with the UK’s Minister of State for International Development & Africa.
2. Roundtable with the Minister of Finance of Nigeria.
I had the pleasure of participating in these meetings organized by @InvestAfrica1
Highlights from the meetings:
1. UK-Africa Policy
Opening remarks were delivered by The Rt. Hon. Baroness Chapman, Minister of State (International Development & Africa), setting the tone for a discussion that was as timely as it was meaningful.
Claire Innes, Deputy Director and Head of Economic Growth Department and Phil Stevens, Director of International Finance at FCDO, then set out the three core themes that shaped the discussion for unlocking responsible, two-way UK-Africa trade and investment
2. Nigeria roundtable:
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyede delivered a keynote address on Nigeria's fiscal reform priorities, economic transformation agenda and investment climate.
The moderated roundtable that followed brought together a curated group of senior investors, financiers and business leaders to discuss three core themes: fiscal reform and tax modernisation; investment confidence and capital mobilisation; and the strategic UK-Nigeria trade and investment corridor.
A personal note of appreciation for the hard working team of @InvestAfrica1 including our CEO @ChanteleCAfrica and our Chairperson Karen Taylor and the entire team.
The Addis Ababa BRT B2 Pilot Line Depot Project in Ethiopia, built by @CCECC8 , has started foundation concrete works for its administration building. Covering nearly 60,000㎡, the project will support the city’s BRT system and new-energy public transport services.

Great honor to meet the President of Ghana, H.E. John Mahama, at a breakfast event this morning at the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
I had an opportunity to briefly discuss with President Mahama and Finance Minister H.E. Ato Forson about investment opportunities in Ghana.
The President rung the LSE’s opening bell and also gave a speech highlighting the major economic reforms he has implemented since assuming office in January 2025 which resulted in:
1. Significant decline of inflation to 3.4%
2. Strengthening of Ghana’s currency (Cedi) against the U.S. dollar
3. Big gain by the Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index of 79.4% in local currency terms and a stunning 133.8% in US Dollar terms.
4. Successful conclusion of debt restructuring
5. 6.0% GDP growth
The LSE event is a great annual tradition organized by InvestAfrica. @InvestAfrica1@GhanaPresidency@Cassielforson
I don't think anyone can dispute that the most positive word which can describe Ethiopia's election is "defective." But it gives PM Abiy a chance to pursue genuine national reconciliation and quickly bring Ethiopia together again. The nation needs that!

As Ive said before - if given a choice would a rational person choose Mogadishu or Hargeisa to live in? Events continue to prove that Somaliland is the real functioning state vs Somalia's chaos. US Govt will come to its senses eventually.

Profound thanks to the people of Qabridahar town of Korahey Zone and Kudunbuur town of Goglo district who welcomed us warmly. I inaugurated Kudunbuur small dam and water supply system, constructed with a cost of 150m Birr, and attended the starting ceremony of Kebridahar water treatment plant, which will cost over 400m Birr.
I visited Karoor Agro-Industry, one
Of the “Bounty of Basket” initiatives implemented in Somali Region.
Also monitored the progress of the new asphalt roads (around 3km) in Qabridahar town, and the reconstruction of Qabridahar Airport, which is underway with a total cost of 2.6b Birr.
Good to finally see Europeans questioning the value of spending millions of Euros on African elections which only sustain authoritarian regimes and give them the illusion of democratic practices. These "elections" all had predetermined winners!

Ethiopia, Netherlands Mark 100 Years of Trade, Vow Closer Climate and Economic Ties
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten marked a century of bilateral trade today, reaffirming a partnership where the Netherlands remains Ethiopia’s top export destination and leading European investor. Beyond celebrating the 100 Dutch companies active in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, the leaders prioritized future climate cooperation, with Jetten backing Ethiopia’s 2027 COP presidency.
The talks also addressed the global disruption caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, concluding with a mutual commitment to further strengthen strategic ties in trade, migration, and sustainable development.
