Sounds like they had this prepared and were testing to see if the backlash would have enough impact on the sales. Looks like it did, which is insane. Consumers hold all the power and often forget.

So after a day of GTA6 announcement trashfire, seems Rockstar got spooked enough to announce they will sell physical copies with actual discs in them, coming out roughly a month after launch in December.

Unclear as to how it will be distinguishable from the “code in case” ones, or if Take Two will not be caught lying again with another rugpull - but some speculate it might be reserved for an even pricier Collectors’ Edition.

I'm okay with Rockstar charging $80 for GTA 6. If CoD and 2K can sell the same game every year for $70, the biggest and most anticipated game of all time can justify charging $80.

What I'm NOT okay with is them selling a "physical edition" without a disc and locking elements of the GTA experience behind an Ultimate Edition paywall.

This is very much a $100 digital-only game, Take-Two are using GTA's popularity and huge development costs to normalize selling the full experience at this price, making the $80 standard edition seem incomplete.

If Rockstar wanted to improve their reputation, they shouldn't be doing stupid shit like selling a plastic case with a QR code and attempt to pass it off as "physical media". Nintendo was the first to do that, and they got rightfully grilled.
