➡️ £169,000 to send each asylum seeker to Rwanda
➡️ £42 compensation to victims of child sexual abuse
➡️ Rishi Sunak can find 150 judges for asylum seekers overnight, while rape victims in my constituency are waiting over 7 years
With Keir Starmer pledging "a total crackdown on cronyism" if Labour wins power in his speech today, here’s a rundown of just a small portion of the dodgy PPE deals which Good Law Project has helped to expose 🧵
'How come a man who beat his eight months pregnant wife get six months suspended and a bloke walking down a road slowly gets six months inside?'
This magistrate struggles to give @Matthew_Wright a straight answer...
Wow! - Yvette Cooper shreds the Rwanda bill.
And every time there is an intervention, she knocks it out of the park with a home run.
This is a masterclass is countering populist rhetoric, including the charge that Labour have no plan, which she answers in detail and succinctly.
In years to come, exchanges like this will be mandatory viewing of students of politics, democracy and humanity.
NEW - THE VIP FILES
Part One 🔍🗄️📂
I'm working with @goodlawproject on never before seen data about the VIP PPE Lane.
#TheVIPFiles today...
🔹 £3.8 billion contracts for Tory associates and donors for just PPE through the VIP Lane and the govt went further
🔹It turns out the Government massively overpaid on stock through the VIP Lane too....by at least £925 MILLION.
🔹On average the cost per item of PPE through the VIP LANE was 80% MORE than through the USUAL NHS supplier channels.
🔹Sometimes it was much higher.
🔹For instance, the price of a protective gown through standard suppliers at that time was £5.87.
🔹Through the VIP Lane, Meller Designs Ltd was paid more than twice the price at £12.64 per gown.
🔹The company made unprecedented profit that year.
🔹David Meller (of Meller Designs) an associate of Michael Gove, has donated almost £70,000 to the Conservative party since 2009.
🔹More than a quarter of the VIP Lane stock WAS UNUSABLE.
🔹Another company based offshore in a tax haven received an enormous contract and yet £145 million of their stock was useless. The referral for that company to the VIP LANE came from a Tory adviser to Liz Truss.
🔹All these contracts were given preferential treatment even tho most had no previous experience in PPE.
🔹A company was 10 times more likely to get OUR money through the VIP Lane than through being a usual NHS PPE supplier.
@RachelReevesMP has committed to appointing a Covid Corruption Commissioner if Labour wins the next election.
