Agreed. And the biggest reason, in my opinion, to do lots of sports early is to let them learn the basics and see what they like. This past baseball season was only my son's 2nd time playing, but we missed the season before, and he was definitely behind a lot of the other kids. He was a trooper and put in the work and made great progress, but I wish I had just started him at 5. Then if they decide to take a year off and try something else, they can come back and not be too far behind. But we live and we learn.
The boy is doing a wrestling camp this week. These often teach new moves, and in the past he's resisted doing the new stuff when they go live. But this year he's been trying them, and I just love seeing him improve like that. I'm already ready for October.
@QuiteProblmatic That's basically what we did. Small courthouse wedding with close family (some friends came by to congratulate us but they weren't there for the ceremony). Then a week later we had a huge party. I think we spent about $1k.
