The person I responded to implied consumption is an objective metric to qualify quality. We’d had several conversation where this became an ongoing discussion.

The simplest way I saw to convey that fallacy as a general rule on this app was the example I used. Bc “consumption is the end all be all” makes no sense when ranking things subjectively.

Implying that contradicts me saying “comparing Drake’s music to McDonalds is retarded” doesn’t work well.

Drakes music is not like McDonalds bc it’s not consumed at a high rate due SOLELY to convenience, cost, and proximity. That’s what makes the comparison retarded.

It’s good, appealing music, that is abundant & consistent. And yes, it’s consumed by a lot of ppl. But consumption alone isn’t the determining factor in HOW good it is. Bc if it was, we’d be talking about how McDonalds is the greatest food ever….or how Patient Zero clears all of Habibti, MoH, and like 95% of Iceman. And how Choosing Texas clears every Drake song this decade.

To stretch the food analogy, most ppl wouldn’t argue Texas Roadhouse is better than Salt Grass bc of “consumption”. They’d say the rolls are better, the ambiance is better, the service is better, the drinks are stronger, etc.

Music is subjective. Making it “objective” based off “consumption” is stupid.

That was the point.
