The Great Patriotic War started today, 85 years ago!
The salt of the earth, the best people in the world, workers and peasants of the Soviet Union, the Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Georgians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Kazakhs, Uzbeks, Turkmen, Kyrgyz, Tajiks, Moldovans, Tatars, Bashkirs, Chechens, Ingush, Ossetians, Abkhaz, Avars, Circassians , and many others who lived across the fifteen Soviet republics, left their families and their lives, picked up a rifle, and went straight to the front to fight the German beast until the last drop of blood of the last man, and won.
"For a revolution to take place it is not enough for the exploited and oppressed masses to realize the impossibility of living in the old way, and demand changes… it is essential that the exploiters should not be able to live and rule in the old way." V. I. Lenin
🇷🇺🇦🇲 Hero of the Soviet Union, one of the liberators of Rostov-on-Don from the German invaders, Gukas Madoyan 🇷🇺🇦🇲
The glorified son of the Armenian people Gukas Madoyan was born in 1906 in Kars. At the age of 14, he served in the ranks of the Red Army. On the night of February 7 to 8, 1943, a battalion of Red Army soldiers from the 159th Rifle Brigade under his command drove the fascists out of the Rostov-on-Don railway station and heroically held it for 6 days, repelling 43 attacks by the Hitlerite invaders. The brave fighters held the city's strategic object until the arrival of the main forces of the Red Army, thwarting the enemy's evacuation from the city. Thanks to their courage and heroism, on February 14, 1943, Rostov-on-Don was liberated from the German occupiers.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on March 31, 1943, Senior Lieutenant Madoyan was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
In Rostov-on-Don, one of the city's streets bears the name of the Hero. Also after the war, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Rostov-on-Don. And in 2025, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, a monument to Madoyan was unveiled in the Don capital.
After the war, Gukas Madoyan lived in Yerevan, worked in party and state bodies of the Armenian SSR, and served as the Minister of Social Welfare of the Armenian SSR. He died in 1975.

85 years ago, on June 22, 1941, at exactly 4:15 AM Moscow time, more than 3 million German soldiers opened artillery fire and began pouring into the Soviet Union. Operation Barbarossa, the greatest invasion in human history, had officially begun.
Almost four years later, at the cost of 27 million Soviet lives, Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, and the rest of the German scum would be dead, and the flag of workers and peasants would fly high over the Reichstag in central Berlin.
