Unaffordability of home ownership has grown substantially over years and is at the top of voters' minds, but is it at the top of parties' manifestos? Featuring in the News @BBCNews#affordablehousing
Prof. Stanimira Milcheva @Stani_Milcheva was featured on @SkyNews recently on the affordability and inherent challenges for some with #SharedOwnerships https://t.co/raq6FZNsZH
There has been a push for more home ownership in government policy, says @Stani_Milcheva, Professor in Real Estate Finance at University College London.
But dozens of people told Sky News the scheme is unaffordable and challenging to escape from
An interview I gave to @SkyNews on #SharedOwnership (S0) is featuring today in their main news & article below. Focus is on service charges and affordability due to the leasehold structure . We find that service charges make up 30% of the rent in SO in London vs 13% elsewhere.
🏡 Shared ownership is the main type of publicly subsidised house building under the Conservatives.
But the scheme is “desperately failing” according to a recent report by a cross-parliamentary group of MPs, as residents face soaring costs 👇
Great to see UCL's honorary professor @PaulHackett10, CEO of Southern Housing & other of housing associations members of the Shared Ownership Data Initiative #SODI talk about the funding model failing to provide countercyclical #affordablehousing

@CommonsLUHC 3/end We are working on providing a housing wealth lifetime calculator that would help people understand whether SO is for them and provide a staircasing projection. My Shared Ownership Data Initiative (SODI) is working with stakeholders to gather data on SO. Watch this space.
Below is the report by the @CommonsLUHC committee on #sharedownership in which I also provided written & oral evidence. It's a pity to see a lot has not been mentioned in the report but is important to highlight, especially around staircasing and the lack of data for it 1/n
We've found that shared ownership schemes are failing to deliver an affordable route to homeownership.
We're calling on the Government to take urgent and significant action to reform how shared ownership works.

@CommonsLUHC 2/n In any case, Shared Ownership speeds up the process to get on the housing ladder albeit with a % of a home. However, it is a highly complex product and I agree with the report that new and existing shared owners have to be closely supported along their SO journey.
Very happy to see Reading as the success story of migration by @TheEconomist & lucky to have started my journey in the UK exactly in Reading. 👉 Without realising it, Britain has become a nation of immigrants https://t.co/aEBl3SpjAa

Today was my last lecture for 2023 and the module. Want to thank the amazing student cohort we have in Real Estate this year for their curiosity and engagement. I truly enjoyed it. We covered the exciting fixed income market and the dynamics in yields. Wishing all a Merry Xmas 🎄
The eye popping fall in US government yields continues this morning, taking the 10-year to comfortably below 4% — a decline of some 100 basis points in a little less than two months.
Given the sizable moves in the US government bond market, yields elsewhere are being dragged down too.
