.@StanleyLizzy, Gibson & Craddock analyse strategies and outcomes from the NZ Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care of children, young people and vulnerable adults from 1950-99 and identify the multiple layers of ‘ignorance-making’ https://t.co/jxI9wlCiiB
Today @_kick_back alongside 20 other children's rights organizations wrote to the Prime Minister calling on him to kill the Boot Camp Bill.

Unfathomable in its meanness, lack of basic human care (in the wake of problems caused by govt policies) and disregard of dangerous social impacts.
Scrooge politics for the wealthy and sorted

“In 2024, Māori made up 13% of all Marsden funded investigators. Take away the humanities and social sciences panel, and that plunges to just 5.5%. This decision defunds Māori research and Māori researchers by stealth." #MarsdenFund

@lauraejohnstone @anzsoc@UCNZ @emma_k_russell So so sorry to have missed this. Have been thinking of you all these last few days. Bet it was a smashing session
@jtaur1 Yep, the lurch was obvious...but still, the decision to cull the whole sector is quite something. Shut down all that pesky mātauranga Māori work good and proper. Undercut the critics and poets. Remove the conscience
NZ govt has removed the humanities & soc sciences from main Marsden funding. Now focused on 'economic benefit' projects
Extraordinary in its ideological focus; lack of understanding about how economy, politics, arts and socio-cultures intersect; and disregard of quality of life
It is startling to see the shifts towards authoritarianism ...limiting pluralism, fixating on 'problem' groups, expanding law n order, extending non-transparent decision-making, protecting dominant economic-political interests...everyday, there's another contribution

Extraordinary in its ideological focus; lack of understanding about how economy, politics, arts and socio-cultures intersect; and disregard of quality of life
The low expectations of how the NZ state will respond to mass violence in care settings are getting lower by the day
What a pattern of protectionism and injustice
Just abhorrent to hear about the ongoing abuse that Zeni has endured, as well as her family. This highlights the lack of protection available to those who are being stalked and harassed, and the need to enhance their protection. I am in awe of her courage in sharing her story ❤️
Can our govt really not find anyone who hasn't previously been involved in silencing, denying or minimising official crimes to lead and implement the response to abuse?
