Miyako talk about why she started posting illustration. From July 23, starting with EP 6 when she met Viola through EP 12, she had been posting illustrations related to the Yumemita anime almost every day for nearly a month. She say there probably wasnt even a single day when she didnt post & there were even days when she posted two illustrations.

Ofcourse not every drawing was specifically of Miyako & Viola but she say that as long as it was related to the anime, she wanted to post something every day.

She also clarified that she hadnt prepared any of the illustrations in advance. Since she was posting every day, some people may have thought she had been stockpiling drawings beforehand or that she had prepared them together with Bushiroad. But neither was the case. Bushiroad never told her to do it. She was simply doing it on her own because she wanted to.

Miyako was really happy to hear fans say how much they enjoyed seeing her illustrations every day. Some told her, “Thanks to your illustrations, I came to like Viola too,” while others say, “I feel like I was able to appreciate the anime on a deeper level because of your illustrations.” She was also happy that some people came up to her directly at the Osaka event & shared their thoughts about her illustrations.

She then explained why she had been posting them in the first place. Miyako feel that Yumemita is a very unusual but interesting project especially because of how it crosses the boundary between the anime & reality.

One particularly distinctive thing about the anime is that there isnt really a separation between the characters & the people playing them. The Miyako speaking right now is Miyako & the Miyako in the anime is also Miyako.

At the same time, she say they arent treated as completely the same either since there are still things like the anime’s voice recording process that she can talk about. It’s hard to draw a clear line between the virtual world, 2D, & 3D & she feel there arent many works quite like it.

She also points out that even while the anime was airing, the members were each continuing their own streaming activities. So they were experiencing & existing in both the anime & the real world at the same time.

Because of this although Miyako was in a position where she could watch the anime objectively & comment on it like anyone else, she didnt want to completely separate Anime Miyako from the Miyako speaking right now in real life. Miyako thought that if she could connect the two, it could create a really interesting viewing experience.

Thats why she wanted her illustrations to move along with the anime in real time. Miyako say that when EP 6 aired, she already knew what would happen to Anime Miyako in EP 7 & that made her think about all the things that happen outside of what the anime actually shows.

An anime doesnt depict a character’s entire life. The five members of Yumemita are living their lives 24 hours a day—they sleep, eat, spend time alone, meet people, & do all kinds of things when they arent together. But the anime only shows the moments when the story is actually moving. So there are naturally many gaps between what we see.

Miyako wanted to fill in those gaps to think about things like, “I wonder what Miyako is thinking between Episodes 6 & 7?” or “I wonder what she might be doing during this time?”

She would then draw the things that werent shown in the anime but that she, as Miyako, felt Anime Miyako might be thinking about or might naturally do.
