Current Story: v2 Preview Environment Testing

Notes: Yesterday was a bit of a struggle, as I tried another full deployment to the Preview environment with all the latest fixes from the past week. For one reason or another, I kept running into issues that broke the process partway through (or worse).

I managed to iron those out and finally deploy, and after some testing, it looks really good. Accounting is balanced now, and we're officially making the revenue we're supposed to make when transactions occur.

I am going to do another pass this morning, and if all goes well (it seems like it should, it's looking good), I'll announce general availability for the Preview environment later today.

My feeling/hope is that we'll have this up to test for a week, and next Friday I'll switch over to the actual Production environment, and we'll finally, officially be on v2 of our marketplace. 🙏

Current Story: v2 Preview Environment Testing

Notes: I started digging into the grief yesterday to identify accounting issues with the new v2 features. It didn't take long. It was obvious I was so excited to implement features that actually generate revenue that I didn't actually implement the feature to the feature that generated said revenue. 🤦‍♂️ The interface is there, but the services weren't.

Embarrassing. I put in a system check going forward so this shouldn't happen again. I've noticed this before and said I'd do it if it ever bit me. Well, here we are, full in spades. 💥

Well, no biggie. That is why we create a fully testable, ephemeral environment for exactly this. I fixed the Announcement Bot issues, but we still have a few more for the Command Token, which I should finish this morning. If all goes well, I'll recreate the testing environment, run another test pass, and if everything looks OK, finally make the Preview environment Generally Available tomorrow. 🤞

The witch has long occupied that deliciously uncertain territory between wonder and dread, a figure shaped by folklore, superstition and our enduring fascination with the unseen. Current Story: v2 Preview Environment Testing

Notes: Yesterday, I spent the day addressing the myriad issues discovered during my first testing pass of the Preview environment. It's hard to believe this is the first time in 2+ years I've seen the codebase in action and gauged its showtime performance. Well, the good news is that I was able to attend to pretty much everything except the really big (and embarrassing 🤦‍♂️) problem of accounting issues, which I should get resolved today if all goes well.

If I get those done, I'll deploy to the Preview environment this morning and make another pass. If all goes well, we should announce General Availability for Testing on Friday, or at the latest, sometime over the weekend.

In this week's Technique Tuesday we're diving into a dark gothic look at dream-logic and surreal imagery .

Our base prompt looks like this

Dark Surrealism ventures into the territories of the mind we would rather leave unexplored. Here, familiar places become oppressive, human figures turn strange and unsettling, and the world seems governed by a logic that feels disturbingly close to our own. A deserted corridor stretches into darkness. A face loses its identity beneath layers of shadow. A beautiful landscape conceals something monstrous just beyond the horizon. These images do more than startle; they awaken the uneasy feeling that reality is thinner than we believe, and that beneath its orderly surface lie fears we cannot easily name.

The roots of Surrealism reach back to the early twentieth century, when the devastation of the First World War left many artists questioning the sanity of the world they inhabited. In 1924, André Breton’s Manifesto of Surrealism called for an exploration of dreams, the unconscious, and the irrational forces beneath conscious thought. Yet the movement’s darker sensibilities found especially fertile ground in the work of artists who treated the mind not as a playground of imagination, but as a place of uncertainty and dread. Giorgio de Chirico’s deserted piazzas, elongated shadows, and silent classical architecture seem suspended in a world emptied of human warmth. His paintings offer no clear threat, only the lingering suspicion that something has gone terribly wrong.

Max Ernst, meanwhile, experimented with collage, frottage, and unexpected juxtapositions to summon strange organic forms and mysterious environments. His forests seem to conceal entire worlds, while his hybrid creatures occupy the uneasy space between the recognisable and the unknown.

Some of the most compelling explorations of Surrealism’s darker territories came from artists who created deeply personal mythologies filled with transformation, confinement, and strange forms of power. Leonora Carrington populated her paintings with hybrid beings, unsettling rituals, and creatures that seem to belong to an ancient, unknowable order. Remedios Varo imagined mysterious figures moving through labyrinthine interiors and impossible machinery, as though trapped in secret systems whose purposes remain just beyond comprehension.

Their worlds are not always overtly horrific; their unease comes from the sense that unfamiliar forces are at work and human understanding may be powerless to contain them. Each artist found a different way to unsettle reality, proving that the most disturbing images are often those that almost make sense.

Dark Surrealism is not simply Surrealism made frightening, nor does it depend on monsters, gore, or obvious symbols of evil. Its deepest power lies in psychological unease: the fear of losing oneself, the suspicion that memory cannot be trusted, the loneliness of confronting something no one else can see. It gives shape to the things that follow us into silence; the dread we cannot explain, the dreams that linger after waking, the parts of ourselves we struggle to recognize. In this shadowed territory, beauty and horror are inseparable. The nightmare may be impossible, but the feeling it leaves behind is unmistakably real.

Current Story: v2 Preview Environment Testing

Notes: With the preview environment finally down to a low, dull roar of errors, I got a first good test pass yesterday to gauge confidence in general availability.

The good news is that the major use cases all work as expected, and none of them threw errors or had any weird issues.

The bad news is that a few edge cases did have bugs.

Even worse, we have a few accounting issues that are resulting in an unbalanced ledger. 💥 This should never ever happen, so I have to go back to the drawing board and see what has transpired here to get this resolved.

Unfortunately, this will push back general availability for a few days. It will most likely also involve flattening the preview environment and starting again from scratch. I will, of course, update here as I know more.
