Northern Ballet visited last week to lead a special workshop about their adaptation of Hansel and Gretel. The children all enjoyed telling the story through dance. Northern Ballet will be performing Hansel & Gretel at Harrogate Theatre on Tuesday, 15th April.
This week was British Science Week. This year's theme explores change and adaptation. Each year group choose an intriguing animal such as red-eyed tree frog 🐸 beavers 🦫 and sea turtles🐢 and researched and presented their new science knowledge in our special assembly today.
World Book Day 📕 was a great success & effort by our children with their costumes & choice of favourite books brought in. An engaging and inspiring assembly by Mr Starkey who also organised our special WBD trip to Waterstones book store & lots of great activities. 👏🏼
A fantastic first day at Robin Hood’s Bay for our Year 5 children. They’ve enjoyed fossil hunting at Boggle Hole, exploring rock pools and of course some fun on the beach - it was perfect weather for it too! Outdoor learning at its best ☀️

As part of their RE learning about sacred places, Year 1 went on a search of St Andrews Church to discover different features. Thank you to Rev Phil for telling the children about St Andrews and sharing a story with them.
In Art, Year 2 have linked their learning to their Wild Cats topic and created 4 different animal patterns. They used a mix of pencils, crayons collage and mono printing to produce some lovely designs.
Year 2 took their science learning leaning outside this week. They worked collaboratively to complete an egg box investigation searching for living, once alive and never been alive objects. The children then sorted and classified the things they had and we discussed our findings
Several of our Year 5 children, following our work with ‘Energy Heroes’ and the NSAT Next Generation Board, led two assemblies today to share their ideas about how we can save energy at school. We have some exciting things planned including our very first ‘Green Day’ 🟢
'The Gingerbread Man'. The children have been great at participating in several activities, including sewing, painting and baking their own gingerbread person. There have been some wonderful retellings of the story and also incorporating the gingerbread man into maths and writing

Year 1 have impressed us with their completed hand puppets. After designing their own creature, they used cutting, joining and sewing techniques to create their finished products.
A huge thank you to everyone who organised, supported and took part in our Sponsored Santa Run 🧑🎄. Despite the cold conditions, the children were brilliant on the route around our school grounds 🏃🏼♀️ So far we’ve raised just over £2100 for school projects which is just amazing! 🤩
Year 2 had a great theme day for their Great Fire 🔥 of London topic and loved taking part in a range of different activities. They made bread, created collage pictures, designed menus for a bakery, took part in a Great Fire of London dance and played games outside.
Year 1 designed and made moving toys as part of their Toy topic. They learned about moving mechanisms with a chassis, axle and wheels and created their own designs of the vehicle shape and colour. They were very pleased with the outcomes 🚗 🛻 🚌
As part of National Road Safety week, Road Safety Talks by Lauren Doherty visited with Nick Hancock from Your Harrogate Radio to share Lauren’s story. Afterwards, Nick did an interview with Pupils about road safety which will be aired during his Breakfast Show on Thursday
Our Key Stage 2 classes are loving being back at Whitewoods Wellbeing in Pateley Bridge. Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their visit, linking to their science and ecology learning, whilst also developing their knowledge of the great outdoors and forest school skills.
Children and staff took time today for the national 2 minute silence of remembrance & we held special assemblies on this theme. Our head pupils along with Mr DCM and Mrs Willans represented the school at the cenotaph service yesterday, with the children reading their own poems.
We are really pleased to have achieved our Level 4 School Gardening Award. Big thanks to Mrs Kitwood and the gardening club, Starbeck in Bloom for their help and also the rest of our team for their contributions 👏🏼
