From Tuesday 3 February, you can visit the David Bowie Centre without booking a timed ticket!

Important things to know:
This is first and foremost a working archive with reading areas and a study room.

For the deepest experience, plan ahead: explore the archive online and book items you'd like to view/study. (Tips below)

If you're just popping in to see the space, note it's not a large-scale exhibition-only a small selection is on display across 9 mini exhibits. Most visitors spend around 30 minutes here.

Practical tips:

Queues are likely (especially weekends & school holidays). No separate line for V&A Members.

No gift shop on site yet-grab David Bowie range items online or at V&A South Kensington.

Like Bowie himself, the Centre will keep evolving-stay subscribed to our emails for updates.

Parlophone Records is proud to announce two very special David Bowie releases for Record Store Day 2026, taking place on 18th April. Both releases relate to Bowie’s cult classic 1.OUTSIDE album, which reunited him with his Berlin-era collaborator, Brian Eno and celebrated its 30th anniversary in September last year.
The neon pink 12” single of ‘HALLO SPACEBOY’ features six remixes of the track, two by Pet Shop Boys, three by Soft Cell’s Dave Ball and Ingo Vauk, and a previously unheard remix by Tim Simenon of Bomb The Bass fame.
Initially released on 19th February, 1996 on CD and as a pink vinyl 7”, ‘HALLO SPACEBOY’ was the third and final single from the 1.OUTSIDE album. The day the single was released, Bowie received the Outstanding Contribution To Music honour at The Brit Awards, and performed the track with Pet Shop Boys, as well as ‘Under Pressure’ and ‘Moonage Daydream’ with his own band. Famously, at the show, David wore a pair of Katherine Hamnett kitten heels, shocking the somewhat conservative Brits’ audience.

The shoes, along with the Vivienne Westwood earring and Thierry Mugler suit, are available to view as part of the David Bowie Archive, V&A East Storehouse Order An Object service Suit & Heels and Earring

Also released for Record Store Day is EXCERPTS FROM OUTSIDE, a half-speed cut utilising the 2021 Brian Eno approved remasters, pressed on clear vinyl. Released on 25th September 1995, 1.OUTSIDE was Bowie’s twentieth studio album, subtitled The Nathan Adler Diaries: A Hyper-cycle. The CD release was the full 75-minute song suite; however, the vinyl release was an abridged version of the record titled EXCERPTS FROM OUTSIDE. The full version of the album was finally released on vinyl as a definitive version in 2021 as part of the BRILLIANT ADVENTURES box set before being broken out, but this firm fan favourite has been out of print for over a decade.

UPDATE

Due to a major network issue affecting the local area, the ticketing system is currently down across the V&A website, which is affecting booking for the David Bowie Centre, as well as Cartier, Marie Antoinette Style & Design and Disability. This is an ongoing issue.
Tickets for the David Bowie Centre will NOT be released today (2nd September).
We will post an update to @vam_east at 4pm BST today confirming when tickets will be available.
There will be plenty of notice, to ensure fans have the best chance to book tickets for the time slots they prefer.

LONDON, 10TH JUNE 2025 - 40 years ago today, Live Aid, the benefit concert organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise further funds for relief of the famine in Ethiopia, was announced with a press conference on the pitch at Wembley Stadium. The show was held simultaneously on Saturday, 13th July 1985, at Wembley and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. One of the day's highlights was the surprise duet of the Motown classic, 'Dancing In The Street', between David Bowie and Mick Jagger.
The video for the track, which, like the song, had only been recorded and filmed in thirteen hours, only fourteen days earlier, was shown at 7 pm in the UK (2 pm in Philadelphia), just before Bowie took to the stage at Wembley Stadium. The single version of the song was released on 27th August, with all the proceeds benefiting famine relief. It topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and reached No. 7 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the track, a limited edition white vinyl 12" will be released on 29th August, 2 days after its anniversary, bringing together all of the song's mixes for the first time. 30% of the retail price from the sale of this single will be donated by David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Parlophone Records to The Band Aid Charitable Trust (Charity Number 292199).

The original plan for Live Aid was to perform the track together live, with Bowie at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. It soon became apparent that the satellite link-up between the two countries would mean a half-second delay, rendering the plan impossible. Instead, the pair convened at Westside Studios in London on 29th June, where Bowie was working with producers Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley. The duo went directly from the studio to Spillers Millennium Mills in the East End to shoot the video with director David Mallet, who had previously worked with Bowie on the groundbreaking Ashes To Ashes video. The video has been upgraded to high resolution to celebrate the anniversary using the original film negative.

Speaking about the song and video at the time, Bowie said “We thought about it on a Thursday night and we just went through a bunch of old songs and thought that ‘Dancing’ was one we both knew very well and then we went into the studio between 7 and 11 on Saturday night and then we went over to the Docklands and shot the video for the rest of the night so we did the whole thing in ten hours, it was great.” He also talked about the spirit of Live Aid, saying, “Everybody out there who sent money in, you’re the real heroes because it’s easy for me to go up there and sing some songs, but it’s much harder for you to give money and not be recognised. Good on ya!”

プラスチックレンズは、ガラスに比べて透過度が低く、傷がつきやすく、劣化が早い。安くなったけど、度が合わなくなった以外の理由で買い替える回数が増えたよ。
