The all encompassing mega thread on the Posnett Street Clanmill Social housing develpment planned for a former car park just off botanic avenue and why I believe it should be refused planning permission. 🧵

You see these scenes from Belfast?
That's our future if Reform, Restore, the Tories, GB News, Elon Musk and the right-wing media get their way.
Except this will be on a much bigger scale.
We have to decide: do we want those inciting hatred to destroy our country?
These aren't protests. They're racist riots. And it's time for the government to take them seriously.
The PM should be convening COBRA and setting out a real plan to end this horrific violence and bring communities together.
Now is a time for real leadership.
"Very poor white people” are being convinced that “very poor, hard-working brown or Black people” are responsible for the “problems caused by billionaire white men”, Allison Morris, Crime Correspondent at the Belfast Telegraph, says in the wake of the riots that spread through the capital of Northern Ireland overnight.
Today, the Campaign has published an open letter to the SoS. The railway knows it ballsed up the design of the Elizabeth Line when it comes to accessibility. Now that the design of the HS2 fleet is up in the air again, why on earth don't we take the chance to learn those lessons?
Plans for Capital House in Belfast city centre, including front and rear extensions, a two-storey rooftop addition, façade refurbishment, and internal alterations, have been APPROVED.

A lot of men up in arms over the attack in North Belfast who have absolutely nothing to say femicide levels in NI, the most deadly place to be a women in the UK and Ireland.
Whipping up rage and anger because an immigrant is involved tells you everything about their motives.
Things that need to happen before even thinking about the York Street Interchange:
1. Dualling Dargan Bridge
2. Dualling Bleach Green Line
3. Increased rail services.
...otherwise how else would people get into/out/thru Belfast during likely reduced thru-put of construction phase?
Also nothing about YSI reduces car dependency and would only induce more traffic.

You can’t tackle a housing crisis with low-density housing on one of the most connected sites in Belfast.
This land sits beside Grand Central Station and there are around 300 applicants locally waiting on housing.
Building 50 traditional houses on scarce city centre land just doesn’t make sense. Belfast needs more homes and better density around public transport.
The largest rail operator in the UK, GTR, has just come back into public ownership.
But many workers, like train cleaners, will still be employed by private companies, profiting off their work and our fares.

26 relatively cheap ideas to improve Belfast City Centre TOMORROW and over the next 6 months.
Belfast HAS stuff, but even a diamond needs a polish every once in a while. A thread 🧵...

While Belfast debates Sunday opening hours and incremental transport tweaks, Cork is pressing ahead with an electrified "DART-like" commuter rail network, eight new stations and a Luas-style light rail system.
Cork is going to pass Belfast in the coming years because it is planning for growth while Belfast still struggles to think beyond short term fixes.
At the very least, Belfast should be pursuing the reopening of the Knockmore Line and delivery of Phase 1 of the Belfast Circle Line before we fall even further behind.
