Proud of creating this beautiful shortlist for @nationalbook with @AronajiAji, Jhumpa Lahiri, @colonellovely, and Julia Sanches. Congrats to the translators (three from Arabic, one from Swedish, one from Mandarin, one from French), authors, & their teams! https://t.co/kppyqTTjls
We are justly proud of the recognition our very own Starling @ZAPTranslations has received for her wonderful translation! Congratulations to the other finalists! We appreciate you all. #translatorsrule
🎉 Congratulations to ALTA member @ZAPTranslations, whose translation of OF CATTLE AND MEN by Ana Paula Maia, published by @CharcoPress, has been awarded the the Republic of Consciousness prize @PrizeRofc! https://t.co/uc4VzEbdc9
Register now to join Ana Paula Maia and me to talk about Of Cattle and Men!
I had a blast doing one of these last year with Emilio Fraia for Sevastopol. Ana and I didn't get to do any promotional events when the book came out, so this will be fun.
Lovely review for our very own @rolandglasser's exciting new translation of Fiston Mwanza Mujila's "The Villain's Dance", out March 12th in the US from @DeepVellum. Still looking for a UK publisher (incredibly!). UK rights to FMM's début "Tram 83" newly available too.
"Mujila’s frenetic energy is captured in rapturous language by Roland Glasser. A feverish tale of Africa’s underclass, whose demands are hard to resist. As one character remarks, “We want reality, the mines, the glue, the Villain’s Dance!” @DeepVellum https://t.co/n8JZ3of7Zp
Announcing the winner of the 2023 Cercador Prize: Zoë Perry's translation of Ana Paula Maia's OF CATTLE AND MEN (@CharcoPress).
The Cercador committee says OF CATTLE AND MEN "lays bare the brutal labor of the slaughterhouse trade," hailing the novel as a "new breed of western."
One of the best things about building translator community is getting to know your friends’/colleagues’ strengths and interests and directing editors to folks better suited to a job. Editors, stop to ask yourself if “that guy I worked with before” is really the best qualified.
Introducing the Cercador Prize for Literature in Translation. Co-founded by Pacific Northwest book workers @jaawlfins and @spencerruchti, the Cercador is the first bookseller-led prize for literature in translation.
Five booksellers, ten finalists, one winner.

The next book to be discussed at our 5th session in November is SEVASTOPOL, by Emílio Fraia. Sevastopol was translated into English by Zoe Perry and published in 2021 by Lolli Editions in the UK and New Directions in the US. https://t.co/EG4sdoF3fQ
