@GoldColdSnow In the past, PA would often remind the crowd to keep quiet when a loose one would run by. Was waiting to see if he would say something tonight.
A first out winner for owner-breeder Pete Mattson, whose MIGHTY SAMURAI (First Samurai - Mighty Molly by Blame) graduates in style in the first state-bred maiden of the season. Constantino Roman rode the 2yo colt for trainer Tim Padilla.
If Hawthorne does indeed begin to enter the last days I will put together a giant meetup. Many of us on here are local & life is short & we love the game. Let us gather & break bread & you can laugh at how bald & old I am. I will likely cry. I’m a sentimental fool.
My favorite memory from my first visit to Aqueduct in ‘97 will always be chart caller Jack Kelly telling the entire press box to quiet down during Jets games. (And they did)
@DRFGrening “I marveled at the unheralded but brilliant consistency of NYRA cameramen Steve Skullstead and John Mazzie, who showed the races seamlessly and always had the hero shot on the winner even in the closest of photo-finishes. That neither are no longer with us is sad.” 🫡
@DRFLivingston Top 5 would be:
Santa Anita
Belmont Park
Old Del Mar
Monmouth Park
Hollywood Park
With a special shout out to Canterbury, which I worked for its first five years, 1985-1990. Very exciting times, a lot of ups and downs, and a very pivotal time for me.
. 16-year-old QH jockey Ryder Olmstead won his first race Monday @prmracing. Ryder is the son of @CanterburyPark HoF trainers Amber and Jason Olmstead. He will ride all four @AQHARacing races next Thursday in Shakopee.
@TomRyanKY@craigbrogden Please desist. I can imagine your arguments would be met with proper derision were you to suggest that the distance of yesterday's Classic at Epsom was similarly reduced. An examination of the list of Belmont winners provides the very foundation of our current stallion rosters.
@MinnesotaDFL I honestly do not believe you have ever given the smallest thought to anyone who worked or visited Canterbury Park. Today would be a good day to spare us the virtue signaling and stay quiet. Your chance to help MN racing passes us by every session, every year without fail.
Some of the 500 folks who call the Hawthorne Race Course backstretch home come to work faithfully each morning, despite having no guarantee there is a future for horse racing in Chicago. So moved in seeing this reminder from @itharacing about how lives are impacted by racing.
