Our call is not an easy one. In fact, it’s impossible apart from the grace of God & the empowering work of the Spirit. God invites us to partner with Him in a way that positions us to need Him every moment of every hour-because we need Him that much-whether we realize it or not.
To me, running along the trails and in the mountains is tapping into the more primal mode of living.
Running in nature is in our DNA that’s why it feels so good to be outside amongst nature being active.

We can’t stop or control the things that come our way. And all of the unknowns can sometimes seem so frightening.
But we can make the minute-by-minute choice to let our souls rest in God. We don't have to understand; we just have to trust.
Insecurity is part and parcel of the human condition. There are two main ways to deal with it:
1) Numb it with substances, the consumption of endless stuff, or by throwing yourself into an authoritarian movement that offers a facade of certainty.
2) Create and build and love.
Everything broken doesn't have to be completely fixed for us to be completely fine. We can be scared & brave & frail & unbelievably strong all in the same leap of faith. We can be hurt but we don't have to live hurt.
Broken is what people are. Beautiful is what God makes them.
Just like you become your habits, you also become the people with whom you surround yourself. Choose wisely.
You might think this means happy or positive people. But I'd challenge you to also think about it as authentic, vulnerable, honest, humble, and curious people too.
Research shows 5 major factors or resilience:
1. Accepting reality even if it's hard.
2. Asking for help.
3. Being patient; knowing what feels like forever in the moment is not.
4. Narrative that you'll grow from struggle.
5. Routine—helps to activate and provides predictability.
When you are down and feeling stuck and in a rut sometimes the best thing to do is rest and sometimes the best thing to do is to firmly nudge yourself into action. Wisdom is knowing which tact to take when.
Oftentimes, being human means being in a place of hurting but still hoping.
Hoping doesn’t mean we ignore reality. No, hoping means we acknowledge reality in the very same breath that we acknowledge God’s sovereignty.
The people who sustain success over the long-haul are rarely shooting for success. They are focused on the path. Their goal is mastery, which knows no end. They lose themselves in their work and community, and in doing so attain a kind of freedom.
Real-live lasting, inside-out change takes courage. Long-haul courage. Courage not only to make the change itself but to stare squarely in the face of why the change is necessary. Courage to look at a tree’s fruit & admit it’s rotten & dig below to surface til you reach the root.
