🚀 During the 1960s, 11 Deaf men—known as the Gallaudet Eleven—helped NASA study motion sickness for space travel.
Their resistance to nausea made them key to understanding how space affects the human body.
👨🚀 True pioneers—on Earth, for space. #DeafAwarenessMonth#Gallaudet11
This #DeafAwarenessMonth, I honor the 108 Deaf & Hard of Hearing students I’ve taught over the last 15 years.
Each one has left a mark on my heart, taught me something new, and made me a better teacher — and person.
Thank you. 🤟💙 #DeafEd#Gratitude#DHH
"Deaf" with a capital D – Why It Matters
The capital "D" in Deaf signifies a cultural identity, not just hearing status.
👐 It represents pride, language (ASL), community, and heritage. #DeafPride#ASL#DeafCultureMatters

🧠✋ Deaf children are often at risk of language deprivation when they don’t have early access to sign language.
Language is the foundation for learning, connection, and identity. Language is a human right— No child should grow up without it.

ASL began in the early 1800s, blending French Sign Language, local U.S. signs & Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language. It grew from the 1817 Deaf school in CT. Today, ASL is a rich, visual language and a core of Deaf culture. 🤟 #ASL#DeafHistory#DeafCulture

Today, in a gen ed class, the teacher had unit vocab with definitions in simplified language and visual supports (some of which being the sign!) on the tv for the entire class to see. This kind of inclusion is awesome! #irvingrdspd@IISDSPED@IrvingBowie_MS
