The new USPS rule, effective December 24, 2025, changes postmark application to regional processing centers, meaning the date stamped might be days after you mail it, impacting deadlines for things like taxes, bills, ballots and charitable donations etc.

To ensure a timely postmark for deadlines (like year-end tax deductions), you must get a manual, hand-stamped postmark at a local Post Office counter or use Certified/Registered Mail, as dropping mail in a blue box or kiosk may result in a later processing date.
