Great to see @TreesforStreets is now in Glasgow. Well done to the team. It's been a long time coming. Now the residents of the city can play an active role in greening where they live, even down to the watering, which saves around £400 per tree.
We're excited to announce our partnership with @GlasgowCC!
Part-funded by Glasgow's LEZ penalty charges, it is now easier than ever for residents to make a positive change to their neighbourhoods 🌳🌲

We need to be planting BIG 🌳TREES wherever it is possible. Why?...
Quite simply, a bigger tree does more. It has more ecological potential. Yes, it is a case of right tree, right place, but all too often it is a small tree in every place.
Trees = street air conditioning.
With more frequent and longer heatwaves predicted, we need greener streets.
Trees create a cool micro-climate. Good for nature, good for us.
Neighbourhood care in Birmingham..
…a living, working example of what this could look like. Here, hospital doctors, GPs, nurses, occupational therapists, council social care teams, mental health professionals and charity staff work under one roof.

To mark the anniversary of his wife's passing, Deryck sponsored a street tree.
He told us: “Walking past Dorothy’s trees offers me the opportunity to spend a moment remembering special and happy times.”

With a focus on pedestrians and cyclists, Merwede will be home to 12,000 people on a nearly 60-acre site in southwest Utrecht.
Instead of filling the streets with congestion and parking spaces, Merwede will have one shared car for every three households.

Witness the transformation of Utrecht's inner ring road as it evolves into a vibrant city boulevard. The city converted the busy traffic road into a safe road with greenery, with priority to sustainable means of transport.

🌿 Dead hedging in Manor Park! 🌿 Our Weekday Womble team built a 30m dead hedge using stakes & cut blackthorn, creating a natural barrier + wildlife haven. It’s sustainable, low-waste & boosts biodiversity. Huge thanks to our volunteers! 👏 #DeadHedge#ManorPark#Wildlife
When thinking about a 'local' park, start with.... involving the 'local' community - what amenity value could that park deliver. Be ambitious.
If your starting point is 'how to manage a green space' then you'll have nothing more than a lovely field where people walk dogs.
Loss of local
Whilst proposed local council reorganisation offers simplified governance, cost savings & strategic planning, it risks loss of local representation. A further disconnect between residents & local decision making. We have to get it right.

January was hottest on record. The climate IS changing. Locally, we can:
Plant trees & enhance green spaces 🌳
Create porous landscapes💧
Design cooler buildings 🏠
Reduce vehicle use🚗
Promote water conservation 🚰
Our towns and cities need to change 🌱
Sad day for Kingston, as our local council says farewell to @ElliotNewton90 its local conservation expert.
Elliot has arguably been the most influential figure in shaping the ecology of our borough in recent times.
Thank-you Elliot.

High streets play such an important role in our local lives, sadly retailers are now facing a double whammy: business rate relief cuts in April + delayed govt reforms till '26. It's no doubt hastened #WHSmith's decision to sell 500 high street stores & putting 5k jobs at risk.
Today's top story:
@WHSmith is in talks to sell its high street division, which has 500 branches, and employs more than 5,000 staff

The world outside our front door is the world we experience almost everyday, so what makes one street better (more appealing) than another. (Here’s an interesting tour from the @culturaltutor )👇
Urban design isn't magic — there are specific reasons why we like some places more than others.
So here are 10 ways to make a street more (or less) interesting...
We often criticise new housing developments for being too dense, but it they were built like this you might take a different view...
Good design matters.
