@Kashyyyk1 @AbeGoldfarb The Hobbit was written as a children’s story, for his *young* children. It’s vastly different in tone than LOTR. Tolkien admitted that he “dressed it down” for younger children. Even he was displeased with parts of the book.

Anything we try to say to convince them just backs up the “us vs them”, “we know the truth”, “the democrats are out to get us”, “they only lie” mentality that they, like all cults, ascribe to.
