For more than 34 years, Alternatives for Girls has been providing a comprehensive array of programs designed to help homeless and high-risk girls and young women. Last year alone, AFG helped 6,590 girls and young women.
August is Water Quality Month. Anyone can help make our water cleaner. Whether it's by reducing individual waste or actively cleaning up waterways, an action makes a difference. This month, I encourage you to find ways you can help keep our water clean.
Hard to believe it's already August! This month is back to school month for many students in Michigan. It's important to make sure we are supporting these students as they make the transition from summer to the school year.

Thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up and collected signatures! We are hopeful that Michigan voters will be able to vote on whether to add abortion and reproductive rights to our state's constitution.

We need gun reform! Current legislation regarding gun violence prevention includes SB 678/679, HB 5371/5372, SB 550, SB 553, HB 5066, HB 5069, and SB 34/35, all of which improve the safety of communities and ensure that those who possess firearms do so in a responsible manner.
Michigan isn’t backing down in the fight for abortion rights. We’ve got support from the highest seats in MI, the Reproductive Health Act, a lawsuit from the governor, a temporary injunction from a judge, and the Reproductive Freedom for All petition - just to name a few.
I am excited to share that our budget includes funding for Alternatives for Girls, a Detroit-based non-profit aimed at preventing homelessness among at-risk women.
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July. Now that the holiday has passed, we should focus on how we can extend the American concept of freedom to all everyone. For example, we cannot claim to be "free" if women can't make their own reproductive choices.
I am a co-sponsor of House Bill 5542, which has been coined the Reproductive Health Act. The bill currently resides in the Committee on Health Policy, but we are hopeful that it will come to a vote in the House.

The only involvement politicians should have when it comes to abortion is the obligation to protect it. Michiganders deserve legal, safe abortion care. https://t.co/yYWpJXW4OC
