The partnership between UBOS and the two cultural institutions is expected to strengthen the National Statistical System (NSS) by expanding statistical production at the community level and improving the availability of disaggregated, timely and reliable data for decision-making.

It also demonstrates UBOS’s commitment to working with cultural institutions and other stakeholders to improve Uganda’s statistical system and ensure that official statistics reflect the realities and needs of communities across the country.

Representing Obwen’engo bwa Bugwe, Deputy Prime Minister Charles Wadenya appreciated UBOS for creating an enabling environment through which the cultural institution can regularly generate and use information about its people.

“The signing of the MoU is an important milestone that will enable the cultural institution to participate more actively in the generation and use of statistics for planning and development,” Mr Wadenya said.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister of Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution, Obbo R. Josel, commended UBOS for its leadership and the successful conduct of the National Population and Housing Census 2024. He noted that the MoU provides an opportunity for the institution to participate actively in ensuring that information about its population is accurately captured and regularly updated.

“The Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution is committed to working closely with UBOS to strengthen data collection and ensure that reliable statistics are available to inform planning and development within the community,” Mr Obbo said.

Dr Mukiza emphasised that quality administrative data is critical to national planning and urged the leaders of the two cultural institutions to ensure that data generated within their communities is accurate, timely and relevant to national development priorities.

He added that the data would support efforts to address challenges such as; poverty and violence against women and girls, as well as facilitating the monitoring and evaluation of Government programmes and interventions.

Earlier today, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Obwen’engo bwa Bugwe and Tieng Adhola cultural institutions to strengthen the production and use of official statistics in advancing their development priorities.

The agreements will promote the systematic collection and sharing of administrative and community-level data to inform evidence-based planning, policy formulation and the monitoring of development programmes.

Highlights from the released Inflation figures for August 2026

Kampala High Income registered the highest Inflation of 4.9% for the 12 months to August 2026, compared to 5.0% recorded in July 2026.

Jinja was second highest 4.8%, compared to 4.2% recorded in July 2026.

The least inflation was recorded in Mbarara at 2.9% in August, compared to 3.2% recorded in July 2026.

International flights and hair dressing services prices are recorded to have a slight drop as compared to August 2025, while crude waragi prices further dropped.

Petrol, Charcoal and Kerosene registered a small drop in prices, as compared to the earlier registered increase.

The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending August 2026, as computed by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), is recorded at 4.1%, compared to 4.0% recorded in July 2026. The Annual Core Inflation for the Year ending August 2026 is recorded at 3.5%, while 3.4% was recorded in July2026.

As per the August annual Inflation findings , there has been a notable increase in price for items such as rice,maize grain, Nile perch, cassava flour and maize flour.

Relatedly, the price of Matooke, Irish potatoes, mangoes, and pineapples have realised an increase in price.

Earlier today, a team of UBOS staff, led by Dr Vincent Fred Ssenono, Deputy Executive Director, participated in the 2026 Rotary Cancer Run at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The run seeks to raise UGX 5 billion for a modern LINAC radiotherapy machine at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya and promote routine cancer screening and early detection.
