The irony that dictator @FEGnassingbe who seized power in a bloody coup the day his father died in 2005, and whose regime massacred over 1,000 Togolese citizens protesting that coup has, on several occasions, been appointed to mediate political crises across Africa by the @_AfricanUnion and the @ecowas_cedeao

The #ECOWAS selected him to mediate the standoff with #Sahel countries following sanctions and their decision to withdraw from the organization. More recently, he was appointed to mediate the conflict between the #DRC and #Rwanda.

Let’s be honest: these institutions know exactly who Faure Gnassingbé is. They know he presides over the oldest military dictatorship on the continent. They know his rule is one of the most violent and repressive Africa has ever witnessed. And yet, they continue to present him as a peacemaker. Why? Because Faure is desperate for international legitimacy. The very legitimacy he has never had in Togo and these institutions, instead of siding with the people and defending democratic principles, are enabling his tyranny.

They are hypocrite and complicit.
History will not forget.
