We thank everyone that has worked to support our campaign publicly and in the background, from East Kilbride News, elected representatives across the political spectrum within South Lanarakshire Council, Holyrood and Westminster and most importantly the people of East Kilbride!
VICTORY!
This afternoon staff in Queensway House have been informed that HMRC’s presence in East Kilbride will now continue beyond the planned office closure in 2025/26
This is a massive victory for staff, @pcs_union and, most importantly, our town, ensuring thousands of jobs remain in East Kilbride and continue to support the local economy at a crucial time for everyone
Removal of the 31 First Bus service, one of only two bus services which pass Queensway House, will have a hugely detrimental impact on many of our colleagues ability to travel to and from work on a daily basis
@HMRCgovuk & @hmtreasury refused to carry out any Economic Impact Assessment when proposing the closures of 130+ HMRC offices around the UK. So we've produced our own with help from @SouthLanCouncil
In conjunction with South Lanarkshire Council and with your assistance, we've produced an Economic Impact Assessment on the proposed closures of Plaza & Centre One. We are releasing the details of the report over the next few weeks, starting with the key findings below. @StayInEK
@ScottishTUC Congress this morning carried a motion opposing office closures in East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and across Scotland
@kris_hendry, Branch Secretary @EastKilbridePCS, seconded the motion, highlighting importance of HMRC jobs to East Kilbride and damage cuts will cause
@reallorraine Can you lend your support to your former hometown East Kilbride's campaign to save Centre One? A wee retweet would really help highlight how an unreasonable HMRC is planning to rip 2700 jobs & the heart out of our town! https://t.co/W39vAeQ21Z
““It makes absolutely no sense to close offices and make tax workers redundant when millions are being spent on recruiting thousands of staff in other parts of the country to deal with the effect of leaving the European Union alone.” @StayInEK

@MelJStride represents the worst of UK Govt - too negligent to bother assessing the impact of job cuts to EK and other towns around the country. https://t.co/Q6vRxvpVk4
HMRC announce changes to planned Glasgow moves
Read PCS’ response below.
We remain opposed to office closures under Department’s BoF plans and believe HMRC must @StayInEK and protect local jobs

@DavidMundellDCT takes 2 months to reply to @LindaFabianiSNP yet he still can't get his facts straight. "HMRC are confident that ... 90% ... employees will continue working..." Glasgow Regional Centre capacity can only accommodate 65-70% of the workforce
The Secretary of State for Scotland @DavidMundellDCT either has no response for our campaign to save 2700 jobs in EK or his response is to ignore us.

Support @StayInEK as once HMRC is gone from Ek it won't be back! Loss of yet another big employer will not bode well for this "New Town" at all 😣 https://t.co/Y51u9C08j6
